I think I’ve seen some of the same articles you have. I believe some of them already had mercenaries, but there’s more being gathered. From their standpoint I’d guess the war is “bad for business”. In The Godfather movies, we know what happened to people that were bad for business.
I think the "inner circle" which he trusts just keeps shrinking...

What happens when UKR neuters Russia's ground forces? Does Russia just start flying sorties and carpet bombing UKR? I think UKR wants F16s probably because they know they will never be able to totally evacuate VSRF from their territory and they need to disable Russia missile launch sites.

I honestly think that, rather than F-16s, they need more air defense and be training on attack helicopters. I'm really not sure why they seem so fixated on F-16s...

Because their air defense is good enough that, following the first several days, the Russians have been afraid to fly over Ukraine in any numbers. More and better air defense would help maintain that status. They can't carpet bomb now, and, as long as we keep them supplied with sufficient defense, they'll never be able to...

The idea of sending them A-10s last year was delicious, and they have (had) some pilots trained on them. But I'm not sure the value of these anymore; more Himars rockets would do the trick, and the longer range Himars could equate the damage from an F-16.

Although multirole, it was designed with air to air in mind. If the Russians won't even cross into Ukraine, that functionality is surplus...

The problem with sending them A10s is that we haven't been the business of building them since the 1980s. We have around 350 in inventory. I think at some point we might need them elsewhere.

Steven Starr, a scientist at the University of Missouri, has made available his analysis of the effects on US infrastructure, communications, and nuclear power plants from the explosion of a nuclear weapon 42 miles above the US. As the US has not shielded against electromagnetic pulse, the effect would be catastrophic.

IOW, exactly the same result as a strong enough EMP from the sun...
