Putin wants the oil, which is eastern and southern Ukraine. He basically already had the Donbas region, he's really pushing for the south at this point (best guess) - this is where all the oil is.
Neither has Trump. Why am I not surprised the Koch Foundation is leading the charge for appeasement? This is par for the course for this bunch.
They have never stopping doing business in Russia, even now.
This is current production - they have the what is estimated to be the largest untapped supply of oil and NG in Europe in the east and south.
I’m aware Trump does business selling properties to Russians. I didn’t know Trump did business in Russia. What kind of business does he do?Neither has Trump.

But Trump himself sought to do business with Luzhkov’s government in the late 1990s, according to press reports from the time, SEC filings and comments made by Luzhkov last year. His attempts to build an underground mall in Moscow and renovate two major hotels there were part of a broader push to secure high-profile real-estate deals in Russia, which Trump was still pursuing as recently as 2016 with a proposal for a Trump Tower Moscow.
Oh, I don't think he personally cares. He's a total sociopath, who cares only about himself, and maybe his kids. He probably chuckled over the pix of his troops murdering civilians - until satellite images made them undeniable. However, tactically, he cares and cares plenty about the attrition's effects on his remaining plans. I'd always assumed he would leave enough troops, and particularly arty units around Kyiv to tie down some Ukraine troops. However, he couldn't afford it in manpower. He needed all of them. I keep coming back to his appeals to 60 year old vets and foreigners. I think the Ukrainians have a few more surprises up their sleeves - as long as we keep them supplied...The theory is likely incorrect - the logical answer is he didn't expect to get his butt kicked - but I don't think he cares at all about the loss of men or equipment. Not one bit.
Agreed.
But ultimately, there's an incredible amount of oil/NG in Ukraine that's untapped, and that's been RU's bread-and-butter for a long time now.
You know that is a totally great pic, except for one thing. No one in his right mind would use that gun for a sniper rifle...
I think it's actually a painting, but your point is well taken. You know that is a totally great pic, except for one thing. No one in his right mind would use that gun for a sniper rifle...
Somewhere, Simo Häyhä is smiling.
I'm lazy. I use "pic" for both...I think it's actually a painting, but your point is well taken.![]()
I hear what you are saying, and its valid up to a point, but I'd pump the breaks on pushing that idea too far. It plays into Russia's hands. The fastest way to grow dissension within NATO and lose German support would be for the US to take that view. Sometimes pragmatism has to take priority over whatever may feel like good karma. Plus there is the issue of asking people to keep paying for the sins of their grandparents. I'm glad Germany is on board and hope it stays that way.It seems cutting off Russian oil completely would result in a deep recession for Germany especially, while having a negative world wide effect as well.
the thought crossed my mind that if any country should have to bear a heavier burden to avoid World War III, Germany fits the bill. It would seem like a combination of Karma and atonement for Germany to pay the steepest cost to cripple Putin.
