Saban Responsible for Dolphins Oh-Fer Season

In an interview on ESPN's Mike & Mike in the Morning, just a short time ago, ESPN's NFL talking head John Clayton from Seattle, was discussing with "whiner" Mike re NFL coaching positions that might be open next year. In discussing the Dolphins job, Clayton said that if he won ONE game, he would keep the job and if he lost all 16, that he would probably be fired. Then further stated that "people or team officials" (I forget which term he used) told team owner Wayne Hizinga (I know I miss spelled it but you know who) was told that "Nick Saban left the team OLD" and that was why the team was the way it was and it would take a long time to fix with these younger players, or words to that effect.

So, it appears that only Saban is the blame for the performance of the Dolphins. He was not the GM of course, did not select all the players to be brought in, but he did cut those who could not perform, and ESPN has taken the chance to pile on Saban once more, to place the Dolphins 0-16 probable season at Saban's feet.

And Saban didn't make the team old by getting rid of all the players they've drafted since 1999. The Dolphins front office/personnel department must be run by a chimp... well... that would be an insult to all the intelligent chimps....

Everyone knows CNS wasn't getting the players he wanted because of the front office meddling i.e. Drew Brees. John Clayton is a worm who looks like he has been choked really hard. I am so fed up with ESPN. 99% of them are total hacks.

I believe Mr. Wayne Hizigna knows cns did him a good job and he will be pulling for nick and bama in the bowl. Dolphins have lost 6 game bye 3pts or less. Thats ccc fault if you ask me. I think if cns where still there zach thomas wouldn't have these migranes from this new coaching staff.

Agreed. Shula was also behind cutting Jimmy Johnson's authority over wanting to trade "names" away (Read - Marino) for a stockpile of draft picks like he did in Dallas.

ESPN "talking heads" just can't seem to get past holding a grudge. They're going to take a cheap shot whenever they can. There are many people out there that hate Alabama. It's just the nature of the beast. Whether it's jealousy, rivalry, predjudice against the south, sour grapes against CNS, who knows. They only show their own small-mindedness when they spout their opinions. Take it with a grain of salt and move on. DT_git:

Actually, he inherited a team that was already old but didn't have draft picks to get younger. If anything, Saban's approach helped keep the Dolphins respectable for two seasons. Miami has never had a strong OL, no QB, and they lost their franchise RB that they traded an arm and a leg for to weed.

In two years, I think it would be a little ridiculous to turnover the whole Dolphin's roster. CNS did what he had to, had them to 9-7 in 2005 and the revolving door at QB in 2006 led to a 6-10 season. Saban got out of Miami because he didn't fit, but you can't deny that Saban saw little chance of success. Alabama is a similar rebuilding job, but the difference is that you can get 25 first-round picks in college each recruiting class.

The last conference championship game they played in was 1992.
Their last Division championship was in 2000.

Don Shula's last five seasons (1991-1995) went like this:

8-8 (No playoffs)
11-5 (lost Conf. Ch.)
9-7 (No playoffs)
10-6 (lost Div. playoff game)
9-7 (lost Wild card game)

47-33 = Winning percentage of 58.7

The team has had Five head coaches since 1995 with a total of 3 playoff wins among them.

But this season is all Nick Saban's fault.

Paterno has won 28 games in the last 3 seasons. Penn State dipped a couple years ago, but lately they've been pretty decent. FSU, on the other hand, has only won 22 games the past 3 years.

Frankly it shows complete ignorance for anyone to blame the current situtation with the Dolphins on Nick Saban. In the NFL there are things called Free Agency and Salary Caps that complete control how a team is made. Unfortunately for the Dolphins it takes many years to put together what is needed to win consistently and with the Big Boys. The Dolphins over the past 10 or more years have not done anything to change their situation. Huizenga is a nice guy and nice guys finish last in the NFL. By that I mean he keeps his nose out of his business and has been known to allow teams to be completely dismantled (Florida Marlins et. al.).

I expect that any day, ESPN will start to blame Saban for the holacost, Pearl Harbor, 911 attacks and global warming. And any catastrophy that may occur in the future.

When CNS was the Dolphin coach last year they beat NE in December 21-0. That was as bad a loss as NE has had in recent memory. They were completely manhandled by the CNS Dolphins defense. I know this is a different NE team this season but they were still good last year and CNS beat them with the "old" Dolphin team. He left that team good enough to beat NE if coached properly. Enough said.
