Sadly we were outcoached again...

It may not exist if we had punted instead of kicking a field goal, we will never know! But the kids that missed those field goals have to live with it, minus the millions, for the rest of their lives!

Im not blaming the kids...they did what they were told and tried the best they could.

Were we watching two different games? Out coached? Really? As mentioned, if the execution of the right reads by the QB, the fundamental act of catching the ball and securing it to ones chest was executed by the players we'd be posting in a victory thread. The coaches and the playcalling put the guys in positions to make explosive plays and on more than two occassions the players "dropped the ball". Or at least that's what I saw.

LOL! You drunk? Like Me!!! ;)

??? That's their job. That's what they do. Its not like we were going for 55+ yard FG's. If they make any 1 of the 3 missed in regulation, we win the game. Coach knew points were going to be hard to come by, and he was right.

Good grief, it's like every other play that doesn't click - if we hit any of those field goals (all were makable), we win and CNS and Co are geniuses.

You guys need to walk away from the ledge.

truthfully, did you really feel that foster was going to nail those FGs from 53, 50 and 47??? I didn't. the coaches and Saban should have punted and pinned them in the redzone. our defense was outstanding, give them an opportunity to create turnovers in the RZ.

Did any of the kickers ask coach Saban to let him kick a field goal or else? NO! Who calls the plays? The players? The poor kid will catch hell whether you or I care or not! Oh he is getting a scholarship! Sorry! Kill the bum! ;)

Amen. I don't know why we always go through this. When we win, our coaches are geniuses. In case anyone missed the memo, we lost to the #1 team in OT by three points. But for a few plays, we'd have had that game in the bag. I don't know on what planet that amounts to "bad" coaching. People keep saying that the FG calls were bad coaching calls, but they didn't score on any of the subsequent drives, so it seems to me that things worked out as well as could be expected on everything except execution on those plays at least. The wildcat pass would have been called the play of the game had he come down with the ball...and he almost did.

My memory is fuzzy but I don't recall huge downsides to the missed FGs, other than the lack of points. In other words, it's not like LSU took great advantage of the resulting field position.

Our loss was not a result of poor coaching. These two teams were about as evenly matched as is possible. If we make those FGs and/or that Maze-Williams trickeration play, the game is won convincingly.

I agree with the notion that Saban was not outcoached, the players simply didn't execute. With that said, we lost to team 1b tonight (despite the outcome, I still believe we are better then they are) and we still have a chance to play for something meaningful if not the championship. All is not lost, dampered, but not lost.

I do feel bad for Mississippi State, tho.

Look, we made enough execution mistakes to cost us the game, no argument there. But those are 18-22 year old guys.

Coach makes 5 mil a year. He can take a little (well deserved) criticism when he makes some bad decisions as he did tonight. We tried multiple low percentage FGs with kickers that have no consistent track record of making long distance kicks -- and we did it with the best defense in college football on our side. We repeatedly put ourselves behind the chains with slow developing, edge running plays on early downs. At arguably the most critical point of the game, we get cute and allow a WR to throw a pass instead of riding the best offensive player in the stadium to almost certain points.

I'm sorry, but we coached "tight" tonight instead of playing to our strengths and riding our horses. The execution mistakes were bad enough, but we compounded the problems from the sideline with guys who are paid extremely well to perform better. Blind defense of our coaches is not a requirement to being a good fan, sorry.

And our defense held on each subsequent drive.

your missing my point. if they were pinned deeper than their own 30 or 40 where they took over from those failed FGs, Bama would have had a shorter field to begin the drive. difficult as it was to move the ball tonight, anything would have favor us.
