Scarbinsky's Article in B'Ham News

This post may become lumped in the press conference thread - but for those not reading that thread - I wanted to try to get this out:

I am so irritated by that article in the Tuesday news. Scarbinsky is actually saying publically - that he believes that CNS compares football & the Alabama loss to 9/11, etc. Now BACK UP!

Saban simply used 9/11 type events as an analogy of how people "come together" after such trageic events. He was saying that he hopes that our players, in like manner, will unite in harmony after this devestating loss, rather than fall apart.

I know the media is judgemental and often inaccurate - but that was just wrong. PURE-OUT wrong.

I think this is the time to rally behind our team & coaches & show some respect for the University & encourage & help them at this time. For fans to defend CNS today & this week would be far more constructive than buying into the hype that the oh-so-athletic & perfect media people would have us do.

I have HAD it. I say we all write intelligent & grammtically correct e-mails to Scarbinsky, telling him that he totally mis-read the meaning behind CNS' comment about 9/11, & that we're all totally disappointed in his most judgemental article. Then we should all write encouraging notes to the team & coaches to encourage them & to let them know that the MAJORITY of Alabama fans are pulling hard for them. (Send to the Athletic Department at UA - not to forums- these people don't have time to read forums!!!)

in fairness, you have to watch any kind of 9/11 references, and rightfully so. Whether you're comparing the game to 9/11 or comparing how your team will react with how the country reacted to 9/11, it's a slippery slope. Probably would have been best to leave that one out. I'm not going to bang on CNS for doing it, but in today's society you have to watch those types of references or people will pick you apart.

bamanut - I see your point - and you're right. I am just in awe that someone would take the time to take the low road on it tho, as Scarbinsky did.

I'll get past this - maybe - but I am just so tired of these people finding every little thing they can to be negative!!

I had to listen to it all the way to work day up here. This one will grow legs for the people who are looking to pick apart the 4 million dollar man. 4 mills puts a HUGE target on your back.

I agree you have to be careful with those comparisons but I don't think CNS was comparing a game to 9/11 or Pearl Harbor. He was merely making a reference to a catastrophic event that changed the way people thought about certain things.

If Scarbinsky is trying to say otherwise, then he's just plain wrong. I haven't read his article and have no interest in doing so because I won't be jumping on the 'beat CNS over the head' bandwagon.

"Remember the Maine"
Remember the Alamo"
"Geronimo"
"Remember Pearl Harbor"

All of those through the years have been used by reporters why is it now different when a football coach uses the phrase?

we all know that, and these lugnuts in the media know that, but again, that kind of reference is going to draw scrutiny. Kellen Winslow, Jr. caught flack for just saying he was a "soldja" and one coach, whose name escapes me, got beat over the head for saying "let's roll".

I was thinking the same thing - and it's a shame. How these coahes do it is beyond me - even those who make less. What their families are exposed to & the hard & long hours (on & off season) that most people truly have no CLUE about is just beyond me when people start picking apart these guys.

We lived in Tuscaloosa for over 20 years until a yearor so ago, & I know what coaches do & how they live - have been neighbors with & close friends - very close- friends with (& still am) with many of them - it is unbelieveable what they do to earn that money - warranted or not, and over & above the the wins/losses goes.

My protective side is bowed up right now...

What bayou said & what MN bamafan is saying is exactly what I am saying - which is why I wish that Scarbinsky would receive a plethora of e-mails today explaining the analogy concept to him. I am so irritated right now- please excuse the rant - but "Miss Optimistic" had HAD it today...

When it rains, it pours.
Team loses and media pile on everything and everyone for whatever they can. Monday, he lost his "rock star" status and "mystique," according to Scab. Today, he's an insensitive, $4 million golden pig.
If Alabama beats Auburn Saturday, Tubby and Auburn will quickly become the whipping boys, and the loss will be Tubbs' fault for not putting these coaching rumors to rest fast enough.

A plethora of emails would lead the unfortunate man to believe that there are are a plethora of people who read what he writes. I think we would should be careful not to give this man false hopes upon which to build his ineptitudes. ;)

That just about sums it up...

Give me a damn break...Coach Saban didn't and wouldn't say, "Losing to ULM is worse/the same as the September 11th tragedy."

His point was that the immediate aftermath to both events was that everyone pulled together...and that he's good enough to capitalize on that sentiment rather than whizzing it away (I'll stop here before it gets political).

It is just absurd.

For Kevin Scarbinksy's opinion to say consistent he would have to criticize Norman Schwarzkopf when he alluded to a "Hail Mary pass" in the first Gulf War. Moreover, to add to Bayoutiders thoughts, he should examine his own columns as well as that of his fellow journalist. I think you'll find plenty examples of the same type of allusion.

Tide N True - EXACTLY!

And I see your point about the e-mails, guys - but after another cup of coffee - I decided that one more thing about this article that bothered me is Scarbinsky's "holier than thou" attitude (as if he knows all there is to know & furthermore is so without fault) - well, if he's so pure, why would you JUDGE the meaning of what someone else says & then to top that off - go PUBLIC with it..Is he that insecure & jealous too???

Give me time - I may get past this, but I am still seething... And this is coming from someone is who is so good-natured & forgiving & optimistic - you cannot imagine ...

That would be 'diddy' down at FSU and was probably more deserving of flack than others because they sold T-shirts with the phrase and the Seminole logo on it.

If I remember correctly, I think they eventually gave the sales to charity, but only after some pressure.
