It’s not every day a major politician sits down with Joe Rogan.

Bernie Sanders did, and now we know why most skip the invitation.

Bernie pushed the global warming narrative. Rogan crushed him with undeniable data.

Then it got worse.

Rogan made Sanders instantly regret saying we should tax the rich more—because Rogan immediately asked why we’d give more money to a corrupt government.

Then, Rogan questioned the government’s monopoly on power, which left Sanders scrambling.

Watch it all unfold.

I see no flaws in this plan.
Government owned grocery stores. Do people not understand that grocery stores have the lowest margins of any retailer class? Even if they were able to sell everything at cost it would only save shoppers between 1 and 5 cents on every dollar. The only way to really save people money would be to subsidize the stores and sell for substantially less than cost. Now you have a madhouse where everyone is trying to shop in one of the government stores and the more you sell the more you have to take from the taxpayers to cover the shortfall. Only an economic illiterate would think this is a good idea.

Ah, yes. The bugbear of the folks from unicorn economics and living in their parents' basement. Erstwhile known as libertarians. :D

Give 'em Hell, Harry Truman:

Socialism is a scare word they have hurled at every advance the people have made in the last 20 years.

Socialism is what they called public power. Socialism is what they called social security.

Socialism is what they called farm price supports.

Socialism is what they called bank deposit insurance.

Socialism is what they called the growth of free and independent labor organizations.

Socialism is their name for almost anything that helps all the people.

When the Republican candidate inscribes the slogan "Down With Socialism" on the banner of his "great crusade," that is really not what he means at all.

What he really means is "Down with Progress--down with Franklin Roosevelt's New Deal," and "down with Harry Truman's fair Deal." That's all he means.

Damn, he almost sounds libertarian. But in the sense of what libertarians used to be. Not the current veiled authoritarians.
Libertarians philosophically will overlap some with the left and some with the right. Decriminalizing personal drug use would be one of those areas. But, in most everything else, there is no agreement between libertarians and a socialist clown like Mamdani.

And it's interesting that you accuse libertarians of being authoritarian. in recent months, I've also read some prominent leftist former posters here label libertarians (and publications such as Reason) as right wing and MAGA. That's definitionally absurd. Liberatarians and Reason have opposed Trump on almost every issue.

Interesting. I understand economics very well, but I'm not sure what unicorn economics is. If it is snark for fantasy, maybe it better applies to those who want a big government to take care of everyone (in the most inefficient and dumbest way possible, which means in the end it doesn't take care of people) while also playing the economic jealously card and falsely claiming that higher taxes on businesses and the rich will be a net gain to this scheme.

Libertarians believe in personal responsibility, so living in their parents' basement is quite the non sequitur accusation. More accurately, Democrats are offended by personal responsibility and self reliance - always wanting someone else to pay their bills. Worse than living in their parents' basement, Democrats use the government to live in the taxpayers' basement.:D

I'm not a Republican, much less one from 75 years ago. But, in sum, I'll add that socialism does not advance individuals or society. Social Security is a terribly implemented plan, depriving most everyone of retiring extremely comfortably. I'm not for subsidies, much less farm subsides. I don't have an issue with deposit insurance. Unions - who all too often defend bad cops, horrible teachers, and lazy workers, while giving them overmarket pay and benefits - are generally not something to be championed. Competitive markets, fostering consumer and worker choice, is much, much better. And FDR is someone to be revered? The same FDR who prolonged the depression, tried to pack the courts, and is guilty sending 120,000 Japanese-American to internment camps? What a guy!

I went thru the entire interview, and it seemed like Rogan and Bernie were in agreement about everything else. Yet the person who posted this minute and half clip seemed to want to make it look like Rogan had made mincemeat out of him.

I say this because I am on record here of NOT being a fan of either individual. But it just highlights how people with axes to grind will find ways to grind the ax.

I listen to Rogan a lot and definitely want to hear the whole interview. For some reason, employers don't like when their people are listening to podcasts instead of working, so I will have to pick a time.

Having said all that, I once respected Bernie, even if I didn't agree with him. When he bent over for the DNC in 2016, all that respect went right out the window.

The simple fact nobody in the Democratic Party will come right out and run on that at a national level except Bernie Sanders (a two-time loser) tells you right there all you need to know about how well this strategy will work.

I don't disagree that the word "socialism" has been overused and in wrong contexts about as much as any other word in political language. That doesn't change the fact that the candidate who runs on that is going to get clobbered except in a limited universe of voters.

Meanwhile.....back at the Hall of Socialist Justice.....

'That’s how you win': Bernie Sanders scolds Kamala Harris after NYC upset

“And if somebody like a Kamala Harris had not listened to her consultants and done that, she would be president of the United States today.”

Yes, because the limited universe of NYC voters is representative of the entire USA. Oh - and this was a PRIMARY. Remind me, Bernie, why Harris didn't face a primary?

I thought he meant Harris should get lucky enough to have an opponent who was born in Queens, botched a pandemic response after good early reviews, was accused by multiple women of sexual harassment or worse, was investigated by Letitia James, was at one time charged with a sex crime, and ranted against cancel culture.

Which, of course, she did. And lost.
