I'll offer a question.

If all people were as you, how would we propagate?

You want understanding, but you admit promiscuity on every level of your relationships. You want gay marriage, but flaunt your actions on national television.

I intend to make this much more simple. I kiss my wife in public places. She gives me a short sweet kiss right there in public.

We do not hold parades or have discussions about what happens in our bedrooms (Yes, we have many rooms.---so quit telling us to GET A ROOM).

If you have read this far, then please give me a proper, scientific answer other than that of frogs.

OK the thread is going downhill fast and I'm fixing to close it unless the topic raises above the level of the last couple of pages.

"Act only according to that maxim whereby you can at the same time will that it should become a universal law" - Immanuel Kant

Kant's Categorical Imperative steps all over itself with countless examples of moral dilemmas.

In any case, the failure of our species to propagate is not really a problem. Quite the contrary.

This isn't very PC, but I just have to giggle when the Indigo Girls new song comes on Sirius Coffee House. It's called, "Sugar Tongue."

I'm not asking all people to be like me. That's more the domain of those who oppose gay rights.

I also hope that the mods do not decide to close the thread, but instead let it drift to the bottom like all the others on here. That allows someone to bump it if a question comes to mind rather than having to make an entirely new thread. I think there is plenty of evidence in here that the people on this board can ask some interesting questions in a respectful manner, and I'd like to leave that door open for the future. Delete any posts you deem inflammatory, but hopefully a few won't spoil it for the rest.

When God said, "I hate divorce" in Malachi 2:16, he wasn't referring to all divorce but to certain divorces in Malachi’s day. In Matthew 19, the Pharisees tested Jesus about divorce laws given by Moses. "Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But it was not this way from the beginning. I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, and marries another woman commits adultery" (verse 9). In those days a marriage could be dissolved at any time a husband chose to write out a few lines containing the necessary formula, sign it before witnesses, and hand it to his wife. There is also 1 Corinthians 7:15 where Paul talks about one of the couple being a non believer and something about if they part ways the children would be unclean. There may be more but I'm a bit rusty.
Not to go bible- thumper on you, Bayou, but I interpret the passage at Matt 19 as Jesus reinstituting God's original standard for marriages for Christians, which basically allowed remarriage ONLY if one party was unfaithful or passed away in death. While He had allowed and tolerated the jewish men obtaining divorces on flimsy grounds, the original plan was for man and wife from the time of Adam/Eve in the garden of eden to stick to together, to become 'one flesh'--with no provision given for divorce at that time.

Now a question(actually two) for our thread starter--what is your view of NAMBLA, and do you think gay scout masters should be allowed in boy scouts?

I find NAMBLA silly. Their idealistic argument is that the age of consent laws are arbitrary and that some minors have the maturity to enter a consensual arrangement and benefit from it. They're probably correct. But policing for sexual exploitation on a case-by-case basis is impractical. So the pragmatic solution is to have one age of consent that society must follow across the board. It may be arbitrary, and strict libertarians would probably disagree with the concept of stripping freedom for the convenience of assuming all children mature evenly, but I consider it a pragmatic solution on the societal level.

I don't see any reason why gay scout masters should be disallowed. Those who argue for their expulsion tend to use the tired argument that gays are pedophiles, which is of course false.

Regardless, most churches are far too approving of divorce and it occurs much more in most churches than it should. The only exception granted in Matthew 19 is for sexual immorality or "porneia" in Greek. It covers everything from adultery to fornication. It doesn't cover things like divorcing for inconvience, financial problems, and the like. I hate to say it but too many Christian-and I am one-sanitize divorce in ways that are displeasing to God.

Of course I am Anglo-Catholic (Episcopalian) and there are many churches in our denomination that are pushing for the ordination of homosexuals and the approval of same sex unions. It varies from Diocese to Diocese to what is accepted and what is not.

I have removed several posts throughout the thread that ventured into specifics regarding well...practices.

I think the thread is fine - but we are a family-oriented board. I don't think anyone with kids who have access to this site want to have to answer questions over something they saw on TideFans.

I'm not sure if I even know what some of the stuff is.

I just found this thread, this board has really evolved with the attitude towards gays over the years.

Charmin, I imagine your posts would be very disarming to someone who just wants to hate gays. Good job.

VJ, I read one of the posts you zapped before it was gone, good job to you too. ;)

Apologies--I've responded to a few posts here and there that I should probably have just ignored. I'll use more discretion going forward.

And that was kind of the point, CV, so I'm glad it worked out. :)

Charmin, I disagree with your generally liberal opinions. Your sexual orientation doesn't matter to me, and shouldn't be an issue. I'm glad your a Crimson Tide fan, and post, (intelligent and articulate,I might add),and I celebrate the diversity of TideFans.com,the home of the BamaNation. It is reflected in the various boards, IE, Prayer requests, bookends,Grillin & Chillin, the strip, and the others, including this one. Off season especially! ;) Dare I say Roll Tide, on this board!
