Two Oregon players not interested in regular Rose Bowl...

I would be curious how they feel about the pac 12 championship? Isn't that what the rose bowl represents? They should cheer up, they are probably getting an undefeated Ohio State. Win a conference championship and beat an undefeated Urban Meyer team for the first time in two seasons. Perhaps, if someone would just put that on a green T-shirt for the guys?

Re: Two Oregon players not interested in regular Rose Boel

I think some of our players felt that way going into the Sugar Bowl against Utah. It's understandable, but the coaches better get their minds right.
Agree completely...
(Stole the words right out of my mouth...)
We went into that game not wanting to be there, and we paid a price for that attitude.
We addressed our problem in the Off Season. Lost a couple of guys.
Next season we had players who wanted to play.

"Oregon may be headed to a fifth straight BCS bowl game, but it's not the game the Ducks had in mind when the season started.

And two high-profile players weren't shy this week about expressing their disappointment.

"I don't want to play in a Rose Bowl unless I'm playing for a national championship," wide receiver Josh Huff told reporters Monday."

""It's not a big deal at all," Thomas told reporters. "We already won a Rose Bowl, so it feels like, 'Whatever.'"

Well, they should have handled business.

I find it odd that a program that has never won a national championship thinks they're above anything less than a title game. I could see, you know, a program with some history getting upset, but Oregon? This is like Arkansas complaining about the Sugar Bowl - except Arkansas has won national titles and has 5 times as many All Americans.

To be fair, Alabama had not won a national championship in 16 years when they lost to FL in 2008. Those players wanted nothing to do with the Sugar Bowl that year. What had those players done in their college careers to warrant that attitude? Championships won by Alabama before these players were out of diapers really don't count.

If you could stop putting things in perspective, that'd be great. :biggrin2:

Probably at 35k or in an airport somewhere
Their statement actually doesn't bother me (and I'm at or at least approaching the age when it doesn't take much to bother me). Consider:

  • They've been close-but-no-cigar in more than one year recently. It's not immaturity, entitlement mentality, or cockiness for them to want to take the next step
  • AT BCS#5, if they win out, they need three losses above them to make the BCSCG (like, that ever happens this late in the season)
  • tOSU could easily lose to Sparty and maybe (though I doubt it) to Meatchicken before that; Baylor could easily lose to the Pokes, and (though less likely) to UTex; who knows what could happen to FSU with their off-the-field issue
  • Throw out the record books on us at AU (actually, history says otherwise, but the Ducks and AU will ignore that). SECCG, who knows?
  • UO loses to Stanford regularly, it seems, by looking past them (this year, they already were looking ahead to January 6)
  • If they play as if they've locked up the Rose Bowl Game and as if that's just fine with them, they could look past, and lose to, any of the teams remaining on their schedule.

Based on current Vegas futures, they have about a 15% chance of making the title game. I think they're just trying to do what they can to maximize their odds of not making another mistake, while hoping three above them fail. The risk, of course, is that if they win out and still play on New Year's Day, can they avoid pulling a SMU 1983?

I don't think anyone is okay with our team's attitude going into that Sugar Bowl game. I think, while a lot of us were disappointed not to be playing for the title, we were still excited about going to the Sugar Bowl.

If they could win they wouldn't have this problem. It's like the team in city league that finishes LAST but talks smack to the champs who romped them by 40 in the regular season

"Hey if we could be in the playoffs we would stomp you"

Bama's effort in that bowl game was disappointing, it reminded me of Ohio State's effort in any bowl game against an SEC team.

Where is the Ducky that knew everything about everything?

BTW I'm sure no one checked on how much the Roae Bowl pays out, but I guess with Nike money those millions mean nothing.

Perhaps. But what is revealing about those comments is the willingness to voice the apathy and indifference. Bama didn't say they didn't want to go. Had that been the case, Saban would have given a few malcontents their wish. Which I would seriously be considering for a couple of quackers, if, the situation presents itself.

I think there is huge difference. Alabama was one game away and had Tebow right where we wanted him, he just made plays. Oregon was like 6 games away and had not beat anyone all year.
