WCWS - Let's Roll BAMA

I've been back and forth on it myself, and I'm also leaning towards preferring UCLA at this point. The thing about Texas Tech is that they're hard to kill. Ole Miss was up 8 on them in the regional with 2 outs and 2 strikes in the bottom of the 7th, and Tech somehow came back and won. That's not a team I want to face in this situation. I lean towards we'll probably be fine either way since we only need 1, but I think I'd rather face UCLA.
Well, Texas Tech is up 6-3 over UCLA, heading into the bottom of the 6th. UCLA's pitcher, (I guess she's their only one), has not been sharp today, and has issued several walks, and given up a few dingers. UCLA chased Canady in the 3rd after she hit two batters in a row. The Tech reliever has shut UCLA down so far. So, barring some explosion by the UCLA bats, we're going to face Texas Tech.

The 6th inning is over, and it's still 6-3 Tech. By the way, the pitcher that is for Tech right now played at UCLA last year. She's part of 15 major college transfers Tech brought in this season. I think Tech has the biggest softball NIL budget in the world.

Bottom of the 7th, and UCLA has now had a base hit, and 2 homeruns to tie the game at 6. Tech had brought Canady back in after the first dinger, and she gave up the tying 2 run dinger. Now Tech has brought the other pitcher back in. She's gets the last out, but we're going to extra innings in Oklahoma City. Maybe we'll see UCLA again yet.

I don't understand it, but I don't like the flex rule in college softball. One of their pitchers started the game in LF, then came in to pitch, then was replaced, came back in again, was replaced again, then replaced by Canaday again. Canaday and this pitcher have both been in and out of the circle 3 times each. Crazy.

Tech is up 7-6 now in the top of the 9th. They have the bases loaded with 1 out.

Now 2 outs. Can UCLA get out of this only giving up 1 run. No, they can't. They get a ground ball to end it, but it's bobbled and the run scores. They get another player out trying to score to end the inning. Tech now leads 8-6 going to the bottom of the 9th.

Hopefully lots of extra innings with UCLA somehow coming out on top.
Man, I would love that. UCLA's only pitcher has thrown over 180 pitches tonight. Her arm has to be hanging by now.

Barring another miracle, we're facing Tech.

Also, what would have been UCLA's #2 pitcher is now playing for Tech. I bet UCLA wishes they still had her.

It's kinda garbage watching this dude just rotate his pitchers out like this. It should not be allowed.
It's called the flex rule or something like that. That one pitcher, Terry, started the game in LF, spent three different turns in the circle, and ended the game back in LF. The rule is a joke. Canady ended the game with her 4th turn in the circle.

Murphy used to do it very well with Charlotte Morgan. Just about every game the opposing coach would come out and talk to the ump. Our 2008 team was loaded.

Well, last night wasn't fun. Still, we shouldn't let it sour our view of the whole season.

Going into the season, a lot of us (me included) were highly frustrated with the program in general and Murphy in particular. However he might have come to it, he made the necessary changes.

Pitching was the obvious strength this year, but we should also take note of Briski's step forward. The Jocelyn Briski of 2025 wasn't anywhere near the Jocelyn Briski of this year. So coaching / development, along with her own hard work brought her up several notches. Then there's Vic Moten. Just a freshman, she's the real deal. She's not fully developed yet. But given the difference in Briski from 2025 to 2026, I'm optimistic she'll develop as well.

Hitting was greatly improved over not only 2025, but the previous several seasons. Granted, the bar wasn't set real high. For some time, we had been at or near the bottom of the SEC when taking into account only SEC opposition. This year was a huge step forward.

Still, even given the improvement, hitting was a bit inconsistent, and we were bad to strand runners on base. Those two things finally bit us last night. Briski didn't have her best stuff in the first game, and we just couldn't put the bat on the ball in the second.

If you had told me in January that I could have my choice of (1) making the national semifinals or (2) take my chances otherwise, I'd have called you crazy and taken the national semis.

If we can stave off other teams poaching, we'll have the makings of another great team next year.

When the sting of last night fades, we'll look back on Team 30 as the team that brought us back.

I agree that this team overachieved considering where we've been the past few years, and we can continue to improve even more next season. Unfortunately, the thing that has cost us at least a couple more championships under Murphy's tenure was apparent again last night...we still can't hit well enough to win the big game when it is crunch time. As long as you keep having the teams like Oklahoma, UCLA, and the Texas times 2 bunch that from top to bottom of the lineup can hit a homerun at any given moment or find ways to get the clutch hit(s)...that will always beat good to great pitching.
