Milroe has been leading 1's all spring, and Simpson got some work with 1's. It's likely to stay that way until Summer/Fall camp... and maybe all the way to Game 1.... I still think Simpson is likely to be the starter by Game 1 or 2.
I hope you're right.

I think it's hard to compare Gibbs and Robinson because they are so different. If a team wants a between the tackles type runner, then it's Robinson...if they want a dynamic threat out of the backfield it's Gibbs.
Yea, I guess you are right but Gibbs was such a good player for us last year I guess it is easy to lose perspective. Dude was close to be an MVP for our offense last year and he was doing it against SEC defenses. Speed kills and I suspect he is the fastest back in the draft. But I am biased...way biased.

Why do you hope he's right? I hope whoever is doing the best job gets the start. If that's Milroe, then great. If it's Simpson, then great. If the freshman kid leaps them both, then great. Gonna be fun watching this competition.
Correct. I find myself pulling for Milroe for some reason. But win or lose, I think both players will help each other get to the next level of their development. That is what we need, next level play at the QB position.

Last season I audibly groaned every time Gibbs was in on third and short...

You're not wrong. If it wasn't Bryce pulling us out of a hole it was JG. He'll do well in the NFL if he stays healthy.

The comments are somewhat surprising, but not much.
Anyone remember a guy named Joe Burrow? More specifically, ‘memba him the season before LSU won it all? He couldn’t hit the side of a barn standing six feet from it. A lot of us were impressed with his toughness because he got hammered all year, but no one expected him to do what he did the following season. Yeah, he had all world receivers (as did Mac/Tua) but he improved his accuracy beyond what most people believed he would.
JM can do it, and although I haven’t seen enough to compare their arms, JM doesn’t give up anything with his physicality.
I’m gonna call it now - JM starts, and plays until he flounders. I don’t know if Saban benches him for a fumble or an interception, unless it’s a really bad decision. Unless there are a lot of really close wins in the first four or five, he won’t lose his job until Bama loses unless the offense sputters…pretty much at any time after the first game. Simpson has to light it up whenever he gets in the game; I don’t know anything about him or his character, but I doubt he willingly rides the pine all year and stays. Part of me wishes he would follow Mac’s path, but that might be a fantasy; again, I know nothing about him so anything is possible, as are (God forbid) injuries.
But barring any major roadblock, I think JM starts and plays as long as the team does well offensively. If TS gets a chance due to injury or a sluggish offense, I think he has to produce to take the top spot.
My two cents.

By all accounts everyone is saying Milroe is showing out, improved dramatically etc etc. And then you come in with "oH I hOpE tHe OtHeR gUy iS StArTinG!" After Milroe wins a natty this year, ala BLAKE SIMS, We'll probably see Simpson transfer out and he'll be a distant memory.

I did too, but not because of Gibbs. BOB and unimaginative playcalling stopped us on 3rd down way too much last season. Just did not have the personnel up front to roadgrade our way on short yardage no matter who the back.

….except Blake Sims didn’t win a “natty”.

Believe it or not, in 2022 we had a higher rushing yardage per game that in 2020 with Najee (195.5/gm versus 183.6/gm) even though in 2020 we had more attempts per game (35.2/game in 22 v 36.6/gm in 20). Our 2020 passing game was simply off the charts good.

Balance in the modern game can also refer to the types of passes we call, where some passes are really like extensions of the run game, and we are balancing out distributing the ball across all areas of the field, instead of the heavy reliance on the deeper passing game that BOB had.

I think the run the ball better also means that if we need 3 yards, we can line up and get 3 yards...
How nice will that be!!!
I’ve forgotten what confidence feels like in those situations…

Remember against UTe, starting inside our own 10 with not quite 9 minutes to go in the game?

Everybody in the stadium knew Henry was going to get the rock. We ran the ball down their throats. Time after time after glorious time. They knew it was coming and could do nothing. If I remember correctly, we didn’t even score at the end — ran victory formation with goal to go.

Yeah, I miss those OLs and RBs.

I don't think Saban would want Milroe to transfer if he was going to be the #2 simply because the backup would then be a true freshman and Saban would value the experience. I think he'd advise Milroe to look at the path Hurts took, where he stayed and worked hard on development, then transferred for his final year.
He also has a young and legit OC who can actually teach him the position. I’m betting he will stay regardless of the QB1 battle.

I think Simpson is the better QB. Sims didn't win a national championship.

I think we will lose 2 QBs eventually to the transfer portal. Either Milroe or Simpson prior to Game#1 and one of the two freshmen who signed this year at the end of the 2023 season. It is a sign of the times, play me or I am outta here.

Wish I could disagree, Gray, but I think you’re right.
