Woman trying out for LSU football team

Former LSU soccer goalie Mo Isom will try to become the first female football player in the SEC when she tries out for the LSU team on Tuesday.
LSU head coach Les Miles did not say how long Isom's try out will last and won't comment on players who are trying out until they make the roster or get cut. Isom said on her Facebook page that the try out will last three days

Imagine how embarrassing if we lose a field goal kicking contest this fall to a team with a girl kicker.

The ball is snapped, and the holder innocently flips the ball over his shoulder to this kicker who has started running around the right end. The defense, caught completely off guard, watches in horror as she runs across the goal line, securing the 19-16 win for LSU.

And here's my scenario. As she's running around the right end Robert Lester who's been put in as a "just in case" spots the fake. He takes off at full speed and having the perfect angle hits her so hard that she flies out of bounds, never reaching the endzone, and is rolled up under the table where the Gatorade is, curled up in the fetal position as she hears the Bama faithful singing Rammer Jammer down in Red Stick .

Read that SI article and you'll find that she's taken harder hits than anything you'll find on the football field.

And it wasn't until Nov. 25, 2009, that God grabbed Isom's attention, and it came at 1:30 in the morning on her trip back home to Georgia for the holidays.

Isom lost control of her jeep, flipped it three times and landed upside down around a tree in a ravine.

"I remember waking up hanging upside down, literally vomiting blood and choking on it because I was upside down," Isom said.

Isom broke her neck and all of her ribs, while damaging her lungs, face and brain.

If you can come back from the kind of setbacks she's had in life and become an excellent athlete, a homecoming queen, and a seemingly intelligent and funny person, more power to you. I wish her the best, same as I would anyone else who's overcome tough times in life to pursue his or her dreams. (Just not on one particular day out of the year.)
