Word out of Aubarn is that Freeze is miserable

My Aubie relatives only want to talk about the recruiting class and next year. They seem to think he is a sure thing for next year so long as they just don't get embarrassed from here on out. But, if the recruits start bailing on him, he might be in trouble despite the buyout amount.

In that case I think CHF would take the money and run.
Aubarn fans have an uncanny ability to ignore their current situation and only focus on the best case scenario of tomorrow. If you have ever seen a man standing in the line to buy a lottery ticket, you can get a great real life glimpse of what being an Aubarn fan would be like. Unfortunately for them, denial isn't a river in Egypt.

A physician friend and I have been texting back and forth concerning Freeze for the last several weeks. Not just his post game stuff but also some of Monday pressers and other weekly appearances are “off”. The guy seems “unwell”. Whether it is a physical illness or stress or some combination of things, Freeze just seems unhealthy.

Freeze had health issues (back surgery and staph infection) at Liberty. I’m wondering if that is playing into it, along with pressure of dealing with unreal expectations of the “weirdest little cult on the plains”. My physician speculated it could be a chronic pain situation (from back surgery).

It could be the stress of it all - I agree he just doesn't look happy to be there. I wouldn't be regardless, but especially if my bosses have the view that they should be best at everything in football, but are proven to be quite fickle in their support of you and your job.

The boogs want do anything till the Bama game, if he gets blown out they may look somewhere else but if he wins it gets him another year at least

Has ANYONE post Pat Dye EVER been happy to be there? Other than catching lightning in a bottle with the pay-for-play before it was legal what have they really done? It's not a "Destination" job. It's proven over and over and over to be totally based on delusion and potential seldom ever realized.

I just saw this list of potential replacements for Hugh Freeze (on a site I will not link because of the name):

Deion Sanders (yeah, right)

Rhett Lashlee (the most likely given job history)

Shane Beamer (yeah, right)

Sean Lewis (HC San Diego State)

Jamey Chadwell (a second hiring from Liberty?)

I hope the good people on the Plains are enjoying that rollercoaster ride.

Beamer is the best of that bunch. He has it made where he is, so that wouldn't happen...

Beamer has replaced Stoops as "the best SEC coach at a non-power school". If he has any sense he will take heed to what has happened to Stoops and will parlay his successes to a better job before the law of averages catch up with him.

Perhaps, but awbern ain't a better one...

Terry Bowden, 15 games into a 20 game winning streak to start his tenure, defeating a much larger Bill Curry.

Yeah, I agree, but man, it would have to be a huge bump in salary (with a significant buy-out for the inevitable termination). There are just a lot of headaches that come with that job. A lot.
In Columbia, Beamer is appreciated and if he occasionally beats the Georgias and Alabamas of the SEC every once in a while, they are fine.
Gotta beat the Fighting Dabos, though.

Speaking from experience, there are few things as demoralizing as chronic back pain.

Same! He’s hunched over w bad posture and doesn’t lean to one side or the other tho and you can see his gut so he’s not wearing a brace so Im not sure i think it’s back pain

He looks like he’s spent the fall crawling into a bottle to me

Bill Clark at UAB made the decision to step down in the summer of 2022 due to chronic back pain, prior to surgery. And let’s face it, UAB isn’t the pressure cooker like many Power 5 programs.

The thing with chronic spinal pain is, if it has been a long term issue prior to surgery, many times the relief surgery provides is only minimal or temporary. I do not wish that misery on anyone.

Rhett Lashlee explains his decision to leave Auburn

“It’s probably one of the hardest decisions I’ve made, definitely in my professional career,” Lashlee said. “Auburn’s very dear to us. I’ve spent a total of six years here, two different times. All four of our kids were born here. We just love everything about Auburn. The Auburn family is always going to be very dear to us and a part of us.

“The opportunity to work for Randy Edsall, who has had success at a high level and success at UConn, and just have the opportunity to run the offense, and that’s something he’s given me to do. I’m grateful for that.

“I’m obviously very close with Coach Malzahn. Our relationship will always be good. He’s been very supportive. I’m very appreciative to him for the opportunity he gave me at Auburn.”

He left Auburn for UConn for the same OC position, and it did not seem contentious at all at least from his point of view.

If I’m not mistaken he had a badly herniated disc which I’ve done to 3 diff discs. I waited too long the first time and the bone fragmented. You’re never the same and are always “junky” but the relief on that nerve(s) is instant and it is the greatest relief I’ve ever experienced. Tbh I’ve been wondering if bill will show back up at some point.

I hope he does. Bill Clark is a great person and even better football coach.
