Who do we (UT) hire now??

If they hire an option coach I'm gonna be in heaven. Our disciplined defense will eat that alive.

The hire doesn't make sense to me from a recruiting standpoint. Recruiting at the service academies in no way prepares you for recruiting in the SEC, or any other conference. Not the hire to salvage the recruiting class that is for sure.

Thanks for the link BigaAl.

Another interesting read about Calhoun:

Reports indicate Calhoun is candidate for Tennessee coach job | span, job, font - Sports - Colorado Springs Gazette, CO

Last January, Calhoun agreed to a five-year deal that made him the highest-paid athletic department employee in academy history. The deal included a base salary of $725,000, annual benefits worth $110,000 and multiple incentive clauses. He reached one of the incentives in 2009 — receiving a bid to a non-BCS bowl game — that earned him 10 percent of his base salary.
The contract represented a hefty raise — especially by academy standards — as Calhoun made a base salary of $560,000 in 2008. Kiffin made $2 million in his first season at Tennessee.

What are the Vile boards saying about this?

This link says they meeting was called last night while Tennessee was supposedly still in talks with Muschamp so not sure what to make of it, unless the Muschamp story was just to make the fans happy.

Air Force Coach Calls Team Meeting; Candidate for Vols Job - WRCB Channel 3 Chattanooga News, Weather |

Hamilton has a history of misdirection, but I doubt seriously this was the case with Muschamp. I have been told that Calhoun has been offered, but no word on whether he accepted. Once again same (now somewhat depressed) friend. I don't think they will release that until they are real sure. I was told that they are wanting to make sure what happened with us and Rich Rodriguez does not happen to them. His actual words were "We have enough egg on our face already, thank you very much."

VolNation is ablaze with reports of Calhoun coming to TN. Sentiment is mixed over there, but seems to be warming to him.

IF it turns out to be accurate, I think it's a pretty good hire for 'em. I wish Kiffin had stayed at TN; he was a trainwreck waiting to happen. (Check that... Trainwreck underway.)

IMO Calhoun gives them a chance to start digging out of the mire. TBD whether he's SEC material. 'Course, we said the same thing about a guy from Utah.

Could be a good hire for UT, A former player and coach from the Air Force Academy is what they need to clean up the mess left by Fulmer and Kiffin.

If they DO hire him, and he DOES stick with a tripple option, they better have some backup quarterbacks ;)

He may have just used the triple option while their due to it being a service academy. He has some Pro pedigree and could instill a pro set.

Sounds like it could be a solid hire for UT - definitely an upgrade from the buffoon they had. He should add some class to the program. From looking at his bio, I don't see any SEC experience - he'll need a great supporting staff, especially from a recruiting standpoint.
