Who do we (UT) hire now??

I have been told that those close enough to the program have been told to keep quiet until it is done. GulfCoastTider is your source saying the same thing?

From what I am hearing, no offer from TN has been firmly declined yet. Just some sports reporters testing interest, and getting a no. I don't know if Muschamp falls into this camp or not. I still do not think TN has given up on him yet.

No, but I'm sure he didn't tell me everything, and he knows that I would never divulge who he is.

They have NOT given up on him, and as of about 1:30 pm CST today, he had not told them "no."

Never have understood the assumption that Muschamp is going to be a great head coach.

If you're going to take a chance on an assistant coach, he's a fine one to try. But like Jimbo at FSU, it remains to be seen how he does as a head coach.

Seems like these guys ought to get their head coaching baptism by fire on a slightly smaller stage than Florida State and Tennessee. It worked out great for Oklahoma with Stoops and Georgia with Richt, but how many times has it not worked?

I know when Saban leaves I'd hate to see Bama turn the head coaching keys over to ANY assistant who has never been a head coach.

The thing about getting the 'big name' right now is that you're asking that coach to do the same thing to their employer that Kiffin just did to you. I know you have to stop the bleeding, but right now you're looking at an assistant. Up here they were mentioning Muschamp and the Air Force coach as the two biggest possibilities. Really?

You weren't looking at a great season next season anyway. Is it not worth waiting until after NSD, possibly until Spring or Summer, to do it the 'right' way and get the guy you really want, and not just someone to possibly save a recruiting class?

Well, I'll assume you're kidding but being a Vol you probably do, in fact think (pray) that Saban is all about the money despite the fact HE TOOK A $1,000,000 PAY CUT TO COME TO ALABAMA

I hope all of you are enjoying more great publicity courtesy of your young brash and now former head coach.
I would love to see Saban as coach...I know it is not going to happen. IF, and I say IF, it did...it would cost a fortune.

I know what you mean. That is kind of like someone doing a double-take after my wife walks by...it's flattering. :biggrin2:

I also bet someone will read into your statement and will reply with 38 pages of why Saban would never go to UT. Oh well...

If the Air Force coach came to UT would you guys run that crazy bone-flex offense?

I would assume we would run it. Not really sure the type of offense matters if it works. The spread and wildcat has caught on good.

You make the cardinal error that people who haven't really studied Saban make - he can't be bought. He took a cut in pay to come to Bama. Dollars are just a sign of accomplishment - how you keep score. He doesn't even begin to use the money he makes. He gives a big chunk of it back to the University, anyway. He has said several times that he's now proven that he can resurrect programs, so now his next big challenge is to prove that he can sustain success at one school. (Read "I'm going to do away with that 'job-hopper' rep.") I think money is off the table. Nobody will pull him again with a raise. Bama can provide every dollar he wants or needs - and he knows it. However, if you want to phantasize, go ahead, but you don't understand the man...

I'm so happy that the football gods smiled upon the Alabama Crimson Tide once again!
