So my sons HS plays in a baseball tournament at Gulf Shores every year during Spring Break. My family and 3 others got a room together in Orange Beach. Scheduled it back last Fall. No, we didn’t buy the room insurance since chances of a hurricane are low in March. Fast forward to this week. The fit has hit the Shan and we probably don’t need to do this trip. Tournament was cancelled. Tried to get Liquid Life to let us back out because of this virus mess and they are pretty much at “we’re just an intermediary” and “screw you, we got your money, see you at the beach”. I realize a contract was agreed to but this is extenuating circumstances and I’m not sure trip insurance includes “national emergency” or “viral outbreak”. We’re supposed to leave Sunday and are at the point of “well we spent the money we might as well go on”. I have seen where the locals are asking the beach to be shut down because people are flocking down there and bringing Lord knows what with them. What to do!!!!

Well, the decision would be easy for me. You may be sorry...

Revisiting this:

I didn't mean to imply going is equal to not going.

If you lose out on your money then you miss out on it and the trip, but what fun will the trip be anyway?

Add to that if someone gets sick you'll have to live with that the rest of your life.

Add in that the situation keeps changing, generally for the worse, and no telling what happens. Perhaps you get down there and get stuck away from home in an unfamiliar place that is not your home.

I would not take the chance.

I would say "well, we spent the money so it's a sunk cost. No need to risk our lives." and maybe take one less much needed vacation this year. Pretty much what we did a couple weeks ago but we hadn't spent the money on hotels yet so a much easier decision. If you're asking what to do, @AlistarWills, I'm voting no go.

4 families, 16 people sharing a condo. Stuff is open but the locals are begging City Hall to close the beaches. They can’t get the necessities because tourists are gobbling them up.
Do you have your own room or were you sharing? Are restaurants open? Could be a mess.

Ouch! I would skip just because of the 4 families in one condo - even if it is huge, you are not going to be able to stay separate enough over the course of a week. Add the possibility that you might not be able to buy food there, which means you have to take food with you to prepare yourselves while you are there. Sounds like more work than vacation to me.

No good answers. Even if you go and stay healthy, seems like a stressful trip.

We are desperately trying to get this business to give the money back. A lot of rental places are doing just that, or offering a rebook for the future.
We want to be able to go but things are just bad. Just saw the OBA mayor say that folks can’t go to Texas/Mexico/Disney so they are coming here. And seriously stressing things.

it sucks that this is happening and these folks are doing this. you could possibly start dragging them on social media. it may get them to respond.

They took their Facebook page down today. The owner Randy Hall, an LSU and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary Graduate seems to want to hide and nod deal with the. As PR he’s causing his business.

You could always post it on, oh - I don't know, a media outlet website/FB page. Not saying you should - that's up to you.

No way would I go on the trip. I hope you can get your money back but if you can’t that’s life. It will suck to lose that money but your health and the health of others is more important.

If the guy holding the money is a third party booker, I wonder if whoever owns the condo isn’t refunding the money to him.

Good luck to you and your friends.
