Venting- can’t cancel beach trip

So my sons HS plays in a baseball tournament at Gulf Shores every year during Spring Break. My family and 3 others got a room together in Orange Beach. Scheduled it back last Fall. No, we didn’t buy the room insurance since chances of a hurricane are low in March. Fast forward to this week. The fit has hit the Shan and we probably don’t need to do this trip. Tournament was cancelled. Tried to get Liquid Life to let us back out because of this virus mess and they are pretty much at “we’re just an intermediary” and “screw you, we got your money, see you at the beach”. I realize a contract was agreed to but this is extenuating circumstances and I’m not sure trip insurance includes “national emergency” or “viral outbreak”. We’re supposed to leave Sunday and are at the point of “well we spent the money we might as well go on”. I have seen where the locals are asking the beach to be shut down because people are flocking down there and bringing Lord knows what with them. What to do!!!!

Pretty sure they're closing the beaches...That ought to get you out.

Cancelled a trip to Seattle that was supposed to happen last week (should have flown back in last night) and having the same issue with a VRBO. We got a few hundred dollars back out of the $3K we split with another family. The owners are refusing to budge, VRBO essentially gave us back their commission. Now I can kind of get it, they have a mortgage to pay after all and were counting on this money. What is frustrating to me and what we are working with Amex to dispute is that ~$800 of that money is a cleaning fee and an extra guest fee (place slept 8 and we were bringing 9) that we clearly don't need to pay without staying there.

sucks, but I am 100% glad I didn't go. And you don't want to get stuck in Orange beach paying for a rental for 3-4 weeks if (when) this gets worse or worse, kicked to the curb by the property owner and not allowed to travel

Just reading more comments from locals this morning, they are seriously frustrated and are petitioning Kay Ivey to close the beaches. They are saying the crowds are huge this year. I am seeing there may be a couple other rental agencies not giving refunds but Liquid Life is going to take a bath in this and probably end up shutting down when it’s all over. Horrible bunch to deal with. Completely refusing to communicate with people. We’ve had people with our group try to contact them to possibly reschedule for another date, no response.

I would say, if you don't get a refund and someone goes, report that someone staying there has been tested positive while there (whether true or not). They can then suffer through having to pay to have the entire house, dishes, etc. sanitized.

Look at it as helping the local economy as someone is going to have to be paid to do the work. ;)

We're still holding tickets to France for May, when it's obvious that it's not going to happen. I'm sure Delta will get around to offering free rebooking before then, so I'll just wait for that. They're into "shelter in place" there already. Each time you leave the house, you have to download an "attestation" and fill it out with the reason you're outside. The little village they live in has around 85 inhabitants, nearly all of whom are old and retired and have no way to download and print the form. They can do it by hand, but many didn't get the word. My SIL is German and is trilingual, so he made up a notice and posted it. IDK if anyone else can read it, since it's on his Facebook page....

We have a condo down in Destin booked for the week of Spring break 27 March through 3 April. It's just the three of us staying in our own condo so as of now we're still planning on going but starting to have second thoughts. Will revisit the status of the trip during the coming days..

Oh, I think they'd rebook now, but I just don't have an clear idea of when it would be safe to rebook for. I hope we'll know more before 5/18. We couldn't even legally visit my daughter anyway. BTW, is Dominik's sign viewable?

Delta gave me a credit with no issues basically they waved everything and issued a 1 year credit to each person for each ticket. I will have to call and rebook at a future date as their systems will try and charge a booking fee that their CRM System has a note to waive when I call. That is their standard answer to everyone right now

On the Dominiks question I have no idea what you are referring to there, sorry

I’ve had a nagging cough for 6 months or so. Can’t seem to rid myself of it. I’ve had suggestions it’s my BP meds. I’ve considered the drive down, alone, to go in their office coughing and try to check in. Tell them they made me come down. Start acting feverish and whatnot. See if they get the point.
Ivey just had a presser and apparently was asked about closing the beaches and she had no clue what to say. Frankly she can see that they are closed now, and suffer a small tax hit, or let it go and help this mess breed and go all Summer with no lodging taxes coming in as things worsen.

We weren't going to spend a lot of time at the beach. It's going to be rainy, cloudy, etc. that week. But I'm starting to second guess just going and hanging out in the condo. Doesn't seem like a good idea with everything going on but hate to be out the money for nothing in return. But, also realize a lot of people are going to be out a lot more..

Dispute the charge through your CC company. If it was AMEX, they are pretty good about settling things like this.

I don't give a rats you know what about the owner's mortgage. That ain't my problem and we are all going to be hurting because of this mess. Keeping people's money during a pandemic when the government is asking people to stay home is just pure greed. I wouldn't think twice about disputing the charge and sticking to this person.

I forgot to add it. It's there now and thanks for the Delta information...
