From what we've seen so far, the Russians would simply wait until their officer arrived. BTW, I love that name "Witzig"... :)
John Witzig.jpg

Huge sidetrack, but Dr John Witzig was my most influential dental mentor. He worked his way through dental school as a successful professional wrestler. After finishing school he went to Germany to study the European method of doing orthodontics which was radically different than what was taught in the US. He taught thousands of dentists worldwide his methods of functional orthodontics. After his death, there was a memorial service for him in Chicago (he lived in Minneapolis) and over 500 dentists from all over the world attended. When his wife, Roma, spoke, there wasn't a dry eye in the house. He was a genuinely good man who did more than any other dentist of my career to advance dentistry.

I'm curious, what is it about the name that you like?

It means "funny." "Witty" in English has the same root in proto-Indo-European or even proto-Germanic.

I noticed that. One shorter range and one over the horizon. I'd love to see them clear the Black Sea and Azov of Russian ships, or drive them so far south as to be out of range...
I personally would like to see the russian black sea fleet driven so far south they would be docking on the eternal lake of fire in hades Lol

Well, I keep hearing - from sources all over - that we're weakening militarily. Yes, other countries supporting their own defense is a good thing, but projection of US power has historically been really good at keeping bad actors from pushing their boundaries too hard.

I've long been against the amount of money we spend, wanting instead for other countries to pick up the tab for their own defense (or at lease a substantial part of it). But I'd never really thought what the potential loss of US military preeminence / hegemony would mean for the overall balance of world power. I suspect we're just beginning to see what that looks like.
I don't know the the "potential loss of US military preeminence /hegemony" is near at hand, nor do I think that Japan and Germany stepping up a bit would change that. But if our military edge becomes less decisive while that of some of our allies increases, that may be a net plus. Dominance breeds hubris, which breeds bad strategic decisions and poorly conceived wars, such as Vietnam and Iraq.

As hegemons go, the US have been the world's most lenient hegemons.
What comes next will not likely be so lenient, gentle, or forgiving.
