Bama Game Thread: Official Postgame Thread - Bama vs. UTw...

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

This is Milroe‘s third year at Bama. Last year was Bryce’s third year at Bama. Are you saying Milroe throws a better deep ball now than Bryce did last year?
Not all third years are created equal. It’s an ironic post, nothing more.

The deep ball was Bryce’s trouble when he took over as starting quarterback. That’s the one thing Milroe has going for him.

This seems to be a new(ish) wrinkle that is from Steele. Anderson did drop some, but not that often. We would send 4 guys on 80% + of the pass plays, even if that meant we were flipping coverages and rolling a S over and dropping the Star of the CB back on the other side more like a S. Steele isn't doing that and is instead having the OLB play flats, which means we are only send 3 on the rush on a lot of downs.
Yeah can’t say I’m a fan of this either. 6 of 1

While I think most of the criticism of Milroe is warranted, I remind you all that 14 points, 2 TDs in a game we lost by 10 were negated because of OL penalties. Proctor is a true freshman so that's to be expected from him, but the first was by a guy who's been here for what, 3 or 4 years?

Our problems seem to stem from either poor player development, poor recruiting evaluations, or a combination of the 2.

Sure am glad I no longer partake in sports media. The hater celebrations will be nigh unbearable.

Let's be honest, 2020 really is an asterisk. We hate it, but so many teams couldn't play or had large numbers of player missing due to Covid protocols, etc. It is what it is, but it's not the same as 2017.

Let me ask you this - does Alabama over the last few years look like Alabama from 2009-2017?

It doesn't to me.

The 2009-2017 teams had an identity and they were disciplined. 2021-2022’s identity were basically make a mistake and let Bryce bail us out. This year, I don’t know what the identity is.

In past years you could look at a regular season loss and feel confident that the mistakes that were made won’t happen again and we could lean on our strengths but unfortunately in big games we can’t seem to do anything right at the most important positions.

It just seems that in the past Coach Saban could impose his level of intensity and obsession to detail on the team and staff. Now, the penalties, breakdowns, etc., continue. No one knows more about football and our team than he does, yet here we are. It is impossible that we will not be very, very good as long as we have one of the best to ever do it. Dominate the CFB landscape again? Not sure.......However, he has damn well earned the right to stay here as long as he pleases. I am nothing but grateful. RTR!

I don’t think Saban has lost his ability to coach at an elite level think he’s lost his leverage with the players. How do you discipline a player who can just mail it in and transfer with no problems. They’re sloppy and soft bc there’s no way to force them to be great

Two other things that bother me about Milroe.
1. Supposedly he's one of the fastest guys on the team, but he didnt look very fast at times tonight.
2. As physically imposing as he looks, his running style isnt very physical. He also seems to go down easier than what you would expect. Like at one point he got sacked with one hand by someone that was basically lying on the ground

Well, one of those two lost TDs was an ill-advised pass back across the middle that Milroe was very lucky wasn’t his 3rd interception of the game. Yet another poor decision.

Thats actually one of the more disappointing aspects of watching his game.

Against good teams, we can't win with that approach, because JM isn't even really Marshall or Freshman Hurts. Those guys could hit the fast read intermediate routes if the D keyed on blowing up the mesh point on the zone reads. JM hsn't yet shown he can do that. Unless he can get the ball out faster, that type of offense won't work.
No offense can work like that

Just got home from the game. I already see a thread about bad “QB” play, but it was way more than that. As was pointed out last week our supposed strength at OL isn’t really. They had a terrible game blocking + more bad snaps and illegal snaps on center. The WRs struggled to get open all night, and when they did manage to get open we couldn’t consistently hit them. That lead to the Texas safeties setting up camp less than 10yds from the LOS which in turn lead to issues running the ball. So we end up with a team that can’t consistently throw or run. Don’t get me started on our DL either. I don’t think the Texas QB even got a grass stain on his uniform.

With this offense the margin for errors is razor thin. We can’t have 90yds in penalties and 2 INTs. The rest of this season is going to be a knife fight unless we figure things out, and it isn’t just “change QBs.”

I think Coach may be thinking he loses the team if he moved a different direction from Milroe. They felt he had earned it.

I’m guessing Buckner moves into the Starter role by mid-season
A change is necessary. ASAP would be my recommendation.
If we lose a game under QB2 it will not be because he isn't trying to make his reads. Buckner or Simpson would maybe be better in the long run than Milroe.
The Milroe that played tonight is still the same Milroe that disappointed us last year. The same Milroe that couldn't throw part of the time last year. The Milroe that was throwing interceptions.
The same Milroe that had/has Rabbit in his feet.
I DON'T WANT TO SEE MILROE REPEAT THE TEXAS GAME...
