Bama Game Thread: Official Postgame Thread - Bama vs. UTw...

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

Let's be honest, 2020 really is an asterisk. We hate it, but so many teams couldn't play or had large numbers of player missing due to Covid protocols, etc. It is what it is, but it's not the same as 2017.

Let me ask you this - does Alabama over the last few years look like Alabama from 2009-2017?

It doesn't to me.
Thank you, CA. This is what I was trying to say in my posts.

Before tonight the last loss in Tuscaloosa by double digits, was under Shula. That was also the last time that fans filed out of BDS because it was obvious that we weren’t going to win. That’s a sight that wasn’t surprising back then. But it’s a sight that I never expected in the Saban era

I was concerned that Rees would bring ND's offensive play calling with him and he did.

Texas did to Bama what Bama has done to teams for years - capitalize on mistakes and just beat you when it counts.

The D line couldn't penetrate.

The O line couldn't stop penetration or get a push off the line.

The RBs did not cut upfield even when they had a chance.

The QB was baited into interceptions.

The receivers did surprisingly better than I expected. They need someone that can get them the ball.

And every single man needs to own all the mistakes.

This loss was due to both coaching and effort. Physical ability cannot cover those issues past a point.

This feels like a crossroads.

Agreed. This team has much more than a qb problem. We have problems across the board. Obviously, talent is not the issue. I think what we are seeing is a continuation of some things that carried over from last year, which raises other questions. The lack of discipline and ability of this Oline to push the LOS and pass-protect is mind boggling to me. Obviously, just changing coordinators did not fix the problems that we have. I think it is something more deeply embedded in the program.

Sorry, just one more thing: It would seem the coaches should be aware of this and maybe spend more time on it or maybe change your philosophy a little to the dictates of how the game is now played?
Every scheme has its weak points. Sark absolutely worked osu in the championship bc their scheme against certain formations had a lb on smitty. A good o coordinator really is worth their weight in gold. My issue with our scheme is no one runs the style of offense it’s designed for anymore. You can scheme all day but if you got a lb covering a wr or modern te you’re cooked

Yep.

I was concerned when I heard players talking about greatness in one form or another.

Talk is cheap.

Shut up, put your head down, and go to work.

Saban has always said that it is the Alabama system the Alabama terminology. The new staff and new players come and learn the system and terminology. Now if you have Sark, Kiffin, Golding, and Smart that know your system, tendencies, and terminology. Kiffin is a sign stealer.

Has it ever occurred to us, the defense knows what the OL calls mean, what the check calls mean?

If Saban doesn't change audibles this is the kind of stuff that can happen if the other team has similar talent.

Raise your hand if you thought Milroe would throw a better deep ball than Young at similar points in their careers.
This is Milroe‘s third year at Bama. Last year was Bryce’s third year at Bama. Are you saying Milroe throws a better deep ball now than Bryce did last year?

Jalen Milroe is not the answer. We have to make a change at QB. Otherwise, i see multiple losses in our future. Our OL and DL both got whipped. I see that as a potentially bigger problem going forward. I am hoping the team responds and gets better

I want my po’d coach and players back. Of course given the easy transfer for pay these days he’d probably lose more guys than he motivated.

excellence has to come from within. Inspiration from outside yourself. Are these guys ok with what’s happening?
This is true for everyone though. What is Saban not doing that Kirby Smart is doing?

The high turnover of the coaching staff may have finally caught up with us as well. Certainly Smart/Pruitt as DC and Kiffin/Sark as OC were better than the more recent hires.

This won't be popular on this board, and it isn't popular with me, but there are some UGA folks that think Smart made Saban's defense and not the other way around. Now he's at UGA and we've dropped off.

Honest to goodness, Shula could have coached us within 10 points of Texas. Saban’s game day coaching has stunk like a dead animal in July and it’s been that way for awhile
