As I stated, I didn't watch any games that year. How many did we play? If we played all of the scheduled ones then I completely agree. It WAS the covid year. That's all I'm saying. How many players didn't play due to protocol on any team? Not looking for an argument. Just wondering is all. I'm not really horribly frustrated. Tonight didn't surprise me a whole lot.
Every team Alabama played in 2020 except Ohio State faced the same parameters as Alabama itself did. We excelled and the rest of them didn’t. Only Ole Miss and Florida challenged that team in any way.

Ohio State was screwed by incompetent conference leadership and only played 6 games.

That team was legit.

Jesus no one is making excuses for him, I am just talking about the state of the game. I am just a 36-year-old guy with an opinion. Saban and I don't communicate.
Sorry, I'm not intending to badger you, just used your post as a jumping off point. Apologies., it just fit well.

I'm trying to say aloud what most either refuse to or simply don't want to, but Saban has long declared he wouldn't 'ride the team down', yet this is precisely what that looks like. It's not about tonight, it's about what the team has looked like since, well 2017.

I don't think this is the correct question. The better question is this: how long will you take to force the coaches to start you? If we had a better option than Jalen, he wouldn't have started in the first place. We could be in for a long season if someone doesn't step up and force the coaches to make the change. At the end of the day, it's up to the individual player.....
Ray Charles could see that Tua was better than Jalen Hurts, but it took all season and half of the natty to “force” coach to let him play when it mattered. Being stubborn isn‘t always the right move…

Not going to lie I’m pretty depressed right now.

There is just way WAY too many fundamental problems team wide for me to think they can be eliminated over the course of this season.

Will Reichard and a few of the WRs seem the only ones who played a clean game.

And Honestly this is about the same quality of play as 2021-22 just without Bryce and Homerun threats like Jamo, Metchie, and Gibbs to cover a lot up with explosive plays.

We are still sloppy and soft.

That OL hype was straight garbage talk.

I think… I think the Reign/Run is over.

Whether we go off a cliff or not remains to be seen but the Tip Top Apex run is done.

I’m sick about it.

Roll Tide...

Sadly, I think we've entered the phase a lot of our opponents have wished for for a long time...
Our OL... Failed
Our QB... Failed
Our DL... Failed
Our Coaches... Got their butts handed to them by SARK.

In short we were ill prepared to play Texas, and got our butts beat.
It was a worse defeat than the score indicated.
CONGRATULATIONS TEXAS.
Here's the question everyone is wondering about.
Is Simpson and Buckner so bad that we refused to put them in the game?
Is Milroe really the best QB availaible at Alabama?
Coach Saban should be asking himself these questions.

Are we prepared to fix our mistakes?

Our team is good enough to beat most bad teams.
But Bad enough to get beat by half the SEC teams.
THIS IS OUR FUTURE UNLESS WE MAKE SOME CHANGES.
(This is the Sugar Coated post) I expected better.................

I was thinking OSU didn't play as many games. I didn't know if we played all we were scheduled or not. It's just something I've wondered about.

Watched every play. They will come loaded for bear. They will know every tendency we have, likely know our signals, and know our personnel better than anybody. Saban has no coaching advantage only talent advantage on defense.

If Kiffen and Dart are given time to throw over the top like tonight, we will have a problem...
I don't disagree with your assessment of their strategy or tactics. It's their ability to execute them that will come up short. Golding is a master of X's and O's. A whiteboard genius who can never get flesh and bone to do what the whiteboard says they'll do.

Band aid decisions have been made since 2021 thinking we could squeeze 1 more NC... Going retro ain't the solution.

This is leadership, coaching, recruiting, and conditioning.

Ole Miss is coming up in 2 weeks. They don't have the personnel to beat us but they will have this tape, Kiffin, and Golding smelling blood in the water. They will be on the phone with Sark and his staff in the morning. We get the same performance by Milroe and the OL and that game will closer than it should be.
LOL at Golding smelling blood in the water! That inept buffoon couldn't smell a fart he crapped in his own car!

I think Coach may be thinking he loses the team if he moved a different direction from Milroe. They felt he had earned it.

I’m guessing Buckner moves into the Starter role by mid-season
It just seems that in the past Coach Saban could impose his level of intensity and obsession to detail on the team and staff. Now, the penalties, breakdowns, etc., continue. No one knows more about football and our team than he does, yet here we are. It is impossible that we will not be very, very good as long as we have one of the best to ever do it. Dominate the CFB landscape again? Not sure.......However, he has damn well earned the right to stay here as long as he pleases. I am nothing but grateful. RTR!

A lot I’d like to say but I just don’t have the emotional energy.

Two years ago after the A&M loss I was mad.

Tonight I’m just resigned to the reality of it all.
I think that is the saddest statement because I feel that it is true. We got by the last two years because Bryce Young carried the team. He is gone. This team will struggle profusely against any team that is above average. That means Ole Miss, Ucheat, Aubarn, Texan AM, and LSwho. All those games will be 50/50. Sad state for this program with all those top 5 recruiting classes. The only answer to why the results aren't better is coaching and that starts and ends with Saban

That said, a lot of the pressure was because Sark gambled that JM wouldn't pull the trigger on open guys on the intermediate routes. It was a good gamble. As you mentioned, guys were open tonight, but JM wasn't attempting to get the ball to them.
the intermediate throws are the hardest to make as a qb at any level. There’s starting qbs in the nfl who shy away from those. Problem is if you aren’t accurate in the short nor the intermediate well….that’s a wrap on your offensive. Milroe’s arm isn’t strong nor accurate enough to stretch a d. He’s got a decent deep ball sometimes but even then He’s erratic. If I’m the coordinator we are introducing an option game tomorrow and we are going 60 40 run pass

I think my 10-2 season prediction may be too optimistic. Very disappointed in tonight's result, but I've never been on the Milroe bandwagon and had serious concerns since the TAMU game last year. That being said, I was determined to let things play out until the conclusion of this game before formulating a solid opinion on Milroe. Sadly, I simply don't think we have a very good qb or Oline.

I don’t think a single SEC game was cancelled. We played 10 SEC games and then the SEC championship. Notre Dame played the same amount of games in the ACC and we played them in the semis.
Thanks, TE. That's basically all I wanted to know. I will be glad when all of these covid eligible years are done.

Then retire.

I don't care one bit what Saban wants or likes - he's paid an ABSURD amount of money to win football games, and he's not doing that.

When you're paid at / near the top of your industry pay scale, you perform or you're replaced.

Saban isn't performing. Make all the excuses you want, he's just not.

I don't care if he's 30 or 130 - he needs to do his job or step aside.
let’s review:

2020: national champions.
2021: national runner-up.
2022: 11 wins. Miss playoffs for only the second time.

Disappointing game? Absolutely
Perspective? Please.

Thank you, my sentiments exactly. I wondered why Milroe was even offered a scholarship. BoB didnt recruit him and he was the incoming OC. It didnt make sense then and still puzzles me.

Im firmly in the camp that Saban has been trying to play with house money the last 3 years. But this was also recruiting during Covid too where in person evaluation was prohibited.
JM was offered b/c the year before we signed BY, and we couldn't get another top-level QB interested knowing they'd be behind BY till he left. The hope was he'd be able to adapt or that we'd have someone behind him (simpson) who'd be ready to take the reigns. Seems neither happened...
