Trump Attacks Iran, II

I think if COMCENTCOM were to be relieved of command for failing to anticipate the closing of the Straits of Hormuz, we would all the better for it. Any E-5 intel analyst could have told you Iran would respond by launching what missiles and drones it still had, and by trying to close the Straits of Hormuz (with mines, small boats, whatever).
Just like relieving COMCENTCOM for the disastrous way we left Afghanistan would have helped "encourage the others."
Every theater commander ought be be told, "Congratulations on taking command. Screw this up and I'll fire your butt very publicly."

no bueno

Explosive-laden Iranian boats appear to have attacked two fuel tankers in Iraqi waters, setting them ablaze and killing one crew member, after projectiles struck four vessels in Gulf waters, according to reports.

The ships targeted in late-night attacks on Wednesday in the Gulf near Iraq were the Marshall Islands-flagged Safesea Vishnu and the Zefyros, which had loaded fuel cargoes in Iraq, two Iraqi port officials told the Reuters news agency. One Iraqi port security source said the Zefyros was flagged ‌in Malta.

just damn, these people are idiots

It's possible, maybe likely, that they did anticipate this but were ordered to proceed anyway by Kegsbreath and his boss.

I’m not sure how the President thinks there are virtually no targets left in Iran while they control the strait and potentially have the world over a barrel, a $200 barrel at that.

He doesn’t think that.
He’s lying.

He wants you to know that HE is a big tough man.

It’s a damn shame the results of Fred Trump’s child abuse had to be inflicted on the entire world.

It seems every president is handed a fork, set in front of an electrical outlet labelled "Middle East," and someone says, "Hey, I think you should stick that fork into that socket. This time it will be great."
I had a law partner, otherwise intelligent, who did exactly that. Fortunately, he didn't get electrocuted. Tripped the breaker and ruined the fork. The Hormuz situation is a disgrace, and, in a former era, the Commander would have been sacked immediately. It's humiliating that we have to go hat in hand and pay Ukraine to teach us how to counter Iranian drones, when they offered a couple of years ago to offer that assistance free. Our navy's fear of them is such that they will not force the strait open with escort service...

The lack of thought, planning, understanding of Iranian capabilities, and anticipation of Iranian moves before launching the attack is beyond appalling.

This isn't a failure of General / Admiral-level strategy. It's a failure of Military Leadership 0001. Any Army ROTC student could have predicted this fiasco.

When we look back on this, we'll realize that the only thing that saved the US economy from a no-foolin' meltdown is the fact that we're not only self-sustaining on oil, but the biggest exporter in the world.

Whoda thunk frackers would end up being economic saviors?.

I was livid, enraged with Biden's keystone cops pullout of Afghanistan, not that he ended our time there (defensible), but he did it in the most sophomoric way possible.

Right now Trump's lack of planning is Operation Eagle Claw while Biden's botched pullout is the Raid on Entebbe by comparison.

No, there's at least one that couldn't have:

Before arriving at Fordham, Trump attended New York Military Academy where he was named a captain in his senior year. He continued his military streak by joining ROTC during his freshman year, according to Malnati

He was, in fact, in ARMY ROTC for one year at Fordham.
