Chase Hughes talks recruiting
Springville High School, and he is drawing early interest from schools around the Southeast. Hughes plays well on both sides of the ball, and his versatility has garnered the interest of several college recruiters.

“Wake Forest has contacted my mentor and invited me to camp,” Chase Hughes told ScoutSouth.com from his home in Springville, (Ala.).

The Deacons aren’t the only team interested in his ability.

WR Robert Johnson update
It does not take long to notice the 6' 2", 205 pound receiver out of Oak Grove (MS) while playing on the field. He already has a "college upperclassman body" at the tender age of 17, but Robert Johnson feels like he brings a couple more attributes to the table.

"I feel like I have good field vision," added Robert Johnson. "I can read the holes well, and I do a good job of focusing on the ball until it is in my hands. I have also spent a lot of time growing up in the film room so I do well at recognizing the defenses."

RB Michael Dyer says his early favorites are Arkansas, Alabama and Florida.

Arkansas RB receiving early attention
Michael Dyer is only a junior but the Little Rock (Ark.) Little Rock Christian running back is already a veteran of the recruiting game. Dyer gets so many letters and packages from colleges it's no wonder he's keen enough to know which ones need to be read and which ones can wait.

"They have different envelopes for different stuff," said Dyer, who participated with two sprained ankles at Friday's U.S. Army National Combine. "If they want to send you stats and stuff it comes in a plain envelope but the real ones it will have 'Very Important' on the top or it will have a different kind of logo.

Arkansas, Alabama and Florida are the top three schools for Dyer, who rushed for about 2,000 yards with 21 touchdowns this season. He finished with 2,710 rushing yards and 28 touchdowns along with 22 receptions for 183 yards and three scores in his sophomore year. As a freshman, Dyer totaled 901 yards and seven TDs.

re: 2010 Alabama Commitments and Prospects List (Updated 01/05)

Recruiting news comes out of Army Combine
McDonough (Ga.) Henry County's Markeith Ambles said his goal is to be the best wide receiver in the class, and after his performance at the combine he is in the argument for that acknowledgement.

Ambles said LSU and Alabama have offered and many others have as well. Georgia and Florida haven't offered but are showing interest, and Ambles said he'd like to hear more from Southern Cal. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound recruit said he likes every school that likes him.

Chesapeake (Va.) Oscar Smith quarterback Phillip Sims' list continues to grow and he said Alabama, LSU, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Southern Cal and Miami are his top schools. Among the in-state schools, Virginia is in front.

Re: 2010 Alabama Commitments and Prospects List (Updated 01/05)

U.S. Army All American Bowl Combine standouts
WR Markeith Ambles, 6-1/185, McDonough (Ga.) Henry County
ASSETS: Runs excellent routes, has great hands and very good body control.
AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT: Needs to get stronger in order to help against press coverage at the next level.
WHAT WAS MOST IMPRESSIVE AT COMBINE: He was so dominant against the Black Team, he came back and competed against he Gold Team and had similar success.
CONCLUSION: There is no doubt he is the top receiver in Georgia, he may be the top overall prospect. Ambles should have an immediate impact wherever he ends up.

OT Jawuan James, 6-3/195, Suwanee (Ga.) North Gwinnett
ASSETS: Has good height, good frame and above-average feet.
AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT: Needs to get stronger and more aggressive.
WHAT WAS MOST IMPRESSIVE AT COMBINE: Was one of the more athletic offensive tackles in this event.
CONCLUSION: James has tremendous raw ability, and should become one of the top linemen from the state of Georgia. He claims one offer from UCF, but that number should increase dramatically by the end of May.

Tennessee QB Enjoys San Antonio
Trey McPhail, 6-3, 205 pound quarterback from Nashville-Father Ryan spoke about his weekend trip to San Antonio, Texas for the U.S. Army All American Bowl Combine. He said of the experience, “I enjoyed the one on one drills.” He said of his performance, “I thought I did better than I thought I would. In the one on one drills I threw well.”

It is very early in the class of 2010 recruiting but McPhail has been receiving some early interest and letters. He reported the schools showing interest, “I have interest in Alabama, Cincinnati, Western Kentucky, North Carolina State, Vanderbilt, Middle Tennessee, and Louisville.”

If those are the schools that Trey McPhail is offering I feel good about our chances if we want him. Although I would assume at this point Broadway and Sims are the top two QBs on our board for 2010.

Re: 2010 Alabama Commitments and Prospects List (Updated 01/05)

WR Kyle Prater was the MVP of U.S. Army All-American Bowl National Combine. Bama is not mentioned in his profile. I would think they may want to get after him after his showing in San Antonio, TX.

Army Combine MVP makes most of trip
Hillside (Ill.) Proviso West junior receiver Kyle Prater drove nearly 1,200 miles from suburban Chicago to San Antonio last week for the U.S. Army National Combine.

It ended up being well worth the drive.

Because of his dominating performance at the combine, Prater has been named the Rivals.com Most Outstanding Performer. The 6-foot-4, 200-pound prospect couldn't be stopped in the one-on-ones and did well in the testing, drawing rave reviews from Rivals.com analyst Barry Every and the other analysts covering the event.

"He's just a big receiver with excellent ball skills and amazing body control," Every said. "He could be the next in line like Julio Jones and Rueben Randle. It could end up someday being Jones, Randle and Prater. He's incredible on film and showed it in the combine. He's got the physical makeup to be the next great one."

U.S. Army National All-Combine Team: Offense
SAN ANTONIO – There was no better place to see more than 500 of the nation's top junior prospects than on the field at the Alamodome last Friday at the U.S. Army All-American Combine. Rivals.com's recruiting analysts got a good look at the stars of tomorrow, and here is a look at the Rivals.com All-Combine Offensive team.

Rivals.com U.S. Army National All-Combine Team: Offense
QUARTERBACKS

HinderFirst Team: Austin Hinder, 6-5, 178, Steamboat Springs, Colo.
Hinder was already a well known name, putting his name on the national recruiting map in 2008. He did it again with another strong showing at the Army Combine. There is no doubt that Hinder will be one of the top pro-style quarterback prospects in the entire nation in the Class of 2010. As he continues to physically mature, his arm strength will get even better. Combined with his height, excellent accuracy and a good decision making, he's lined up to be one of the best of the best next year.

Re: DE Craig Sanders Update: Sanders talks Tide

I am a personal friend of Craig's. I am a music and youth minister in Ariton and have known Craig for about three years.

1 - You're right, he is a monster of a kid, but he is also the most polite kid I have ever met. He is another Tim Tebow.

2 - I talked to him last week and his exact words to me were "I have good news: I am going to sign a letter of intent with Alabama".

He will know doubt be a great addition if his heart stays set on Alabama. His parents have been pushing UA very hard, and I think that had a lot to do with his decisioin.

Bryan, that is certainly some good news for us on the Tide Fans recruiting board since in my opinion he is one of the top 2010 LB/DE prospects not only in Alabama but the entire SE. Your info goes right along with what someone else claiming to be close to him said on a premium recruiting board a short while back. This info can technically be considered rumor, although I do want to trust your word this is your first post on Tide Fans. If it turns out to be true then it is very good news. I will wait to hear it directly from him in a published report before I get too happy. Hopefully that will happen real soon. :)

Oh my. Great news if accurate. While I realize you could very easily be some random Gator fan trying to pull our leg, for some reason I'm gonna choose to believe what you're saying. Surely nobody would lie about being a preacher right;) Here's hoping he sticks with his choice.

If he is committing in the spring, I think it looks really good for Bama.
