Re: Alabama QB competition article (ALL QB posts here, please)
Both swings will drive someone into being an alcoholic. I've played both golf (recreational level) and baseball (competitive level) and coached baseball for years. There are so many moving parts to both swings and the slightest most subtle change can drastically impact the outcome. BARTENDER!!! LOAD ME UP ANOTHER ROUND!!!!
To attempt to respond to your comment I believe that the golf swing and baseball swing have great similarity in that we we have to clear out the front side, get the club head inside, accomplish a dynamic weight transfer and release the right (top) hand at the moment of impact. We have seen untrained amateur golfers who attempt to hit the golf ball with both arms who generate little club speed or power. Same with baseball hitters who "cast" the bat at the start of the swing thus greatly reducing their bat speed. The throwing motion has many of the same dynamics. If a thrower begins to accelerate their arm before dynamically squaring their shoulders and transferring their weight it greatly lengthens the motion and reduces arm speed. They can still heave the ball a long way but it lacks the velocity and spin which imparts much more accuracy.
