As expected, Clowney picks USCe

With all due respect, ETG, is your opinion not chicken spin? This is what I was told by someone pretty close to the mom. It's second hand information. But it tracks with what a growing number of people are now saying -- that Clemson has become a bigger player in this than either Alabama or South Carolina may have thought.

And say what you will about his coaching ability, Dabo has always been able to recruit.

my opinion comes from people who have been tracking this situation for 2years. clowney's mom loved the bama visit. she loved the clemson visit. she also loved the USC visits. to say that his mom prefers clemson is just wrong though.

I've often wondered the same thing about Clemson. They are almost always poorly coached haven't won a single important football game in over 29 years, yet they continue pulling in four and five-star recruits.

The one thing clemson can say in recent years is they've done a solid job of putting their top talent into the nfl. That is huge on the recruiting trail. CJ Spiller and Jacoby Ford were heavily used by Dabo in recruiting this year. Overall they are argubly the single biggest underachieving team of the past 20 years in all of collee football. Few teams do less with more than the clemson tigers... but somehow they continue to land the recruits.

Mark Richt and the dawgs beg to differ.

Beg to differ. UGA belongs in the conversation, but under Richt they've been to 3 BCS bowl games, won their Division 4 times, and had six 10+ win seasons. In same span clemson has accomplished any one of those three a whopping ZERO times.

bamabryan, you have nailed Dabo's MO... one of the best young recruiters in the land, very suspect coaching abilities. He's put together a good defensive staff and has been willing to let them do their thing, but the offensive staff was beyond bad the past few years, plus he dabbles in the playcalling and coaching on that side of the ball... results speak for themselves. Everything is riding on Dabo's new OC next year IMO. If he's a flop, Dabo may be walking the Crimson Tide sidelines as an assistant in 2 years.

i can't wait for the 14th either.

i also hope you guys stay out of the state of south carolina for 2012.

Saban has already come to see ATH Shaq Roland (heavy Gamecock lean) who is the #1 player in the state. Overall though, not that strong of a class so not sure who else you guys were interested in. Couple OL should be 4* players in Jeverous Leamon and Patrick DeStefano. WR Quinshad Davis is probably #2 overall player in the state and a 4*, Looks to be an in-state battle and possibly UGA if they offer. Overall though the 2011 class looks a lot stronger than 2012 in the state.

The Alabama class of 2012 is stout. CNS can stay in-state for a good portion of next year's clas.

I'd say it all boils down to what Jadevon Clowney wants. Does he want to play for a team instate that has absolutely no chance at winning a Natl. Champ. or go to Bama where he at the least has a very decent chance of wearing that NC ring if not possibly two rings. A NC is our ace in the hole on recruiting him because he will go pro where ever he plays if he stays healthy.

..and Like ETG said, the state of South Carolina 2012 class not nearly as strong as this year's, so likely not as many Bama-USC recruiting battles next year unless it's Spurrier trying to steal one or two from the state of Alabama (a difficult task to say the least).

As for Clowney, sounds like it's a 2-horse race between Clemson and South Carolina. Tigers could get another visit, too? It's getting good.

Travis Haney (The Charleston, S.C. Post and Courier's Gamecocks beat reporter.) just made that comment on Twitter. Has Bama really fallen completely out of the picture now? Hard to believe considering it was supposedly down to just us and USCe for awhile now. Clemson coming in strong out of nowhere in this race suddenly.

Clemson is now a serious player now, surprising. I'll be shocked in Clowney goes anywhere besides SC, but this recruiting season has just been crazy. So who knows what's going to happen here. I've got a feeling recruiting is just going to get crazier & crazier in the future.

Yeah I have been pretty pessimistic about our chances from the beginning with Clowney. I still think he ends up at USCe. A lot of pressure for him to stick around in his home state. At this point though I wouldn't be completely shocked if Clemson snuck in at the last minute and got his signature. Dabo has surprised me with his class so far this year so getting Clowney would be icing on the cake for him.

now rumors that USCE annd UNC can no longer recruit Clowney due to possible violations and one very trusted poster knows its true about UNC.
