Brent Calloway decommitted from Bama and committed to AU

Wish the Callaway luck whenever he isn't playing Bama. It's impossible for Bama to sign all the kids who grew up Bama fans all their life, but the fact is when a program has recruited as well as Bama has lately. You can't sign them all all for many reasons, and I gotta give this kid some credit for being honest about things with saying the competition was crazy good at Bama right now. Some recruits want to fight for a spot, and some don't. Any recruit has the right to do what's best for him, and I have no ill will towards any recruit who doesn't decide to come to Bama for whatever reason there might be. Bama Nation should just understand if a recruit isn't sold on Bama 100%, it's best to find a recruit who's a 100% sure he wants to be at Bama. Plus, Bama is stacked a LB right now, and with spots being so tight right now, it's probably best for both parties involved here that another recruit gets that spot.

Good luck Brent Calloway, and I'm sorry you will not be able to play for the team you grew up loving.

It's unfortunate to lose him this late in the race and to the Barn magnifies the situation a bit. I think he has known for a while that he wasn't 100% bama if you read his comments about Alabama being "All Business" and Auburn was "Laid back, family atmosphere and they had fun doing it". He made it sound like if you want to work, work, work and act like a robot go to Alabama but if you want to work and have fun go to Auburn? Seems far fetched to me to think that our guys don't have fun or enjoy preparing to dominate each team we face week in and week out. Different strokes for different folks. Good luck to the young man regardless.

Well this was covered on this thread but we can see exactly what happened. Alabama projected Calloway as a LB or on "D" and he thought his best position was RB. The rest of this stuff....more like family, comfort level, etc. is blah blah blah. The bottom line is CNS projects you at a position and that's where he wants you. He's looking out for the kids best interest because he wants them to play their best in college and have an opportunity to play in the NFL. So he might be a 3* at RB and a 5* on "D". I guess he is po'd at the fact that he would not be given a chance to play at RB at Alabama. As a coach, you have to be honest with a kid. I don't see Alabama playing "bait and switch" with a kid just to get them signed. If a kid cannot respect that or if a kid just does not agree or trust CNS (and this is obviously the case), then he is going to get his feelings hurt (look at the pic of him signing and it jumps off the screen at you that his feelings are hurt) and he will go to the barn. To wrap this up, he doesn't trust Alabama and CNS so he's better off going to Auburn. You have to "buy in" to the Alabama program when you come in. Saban talks about "the process" till we are sick of hearing those words. MI and MD talked about that after they declared and CNS talked about it again in the press conference. So if a kid isn't willing to come into Alabama with that understanding, then CNS is not going to want him even if he has 5* or 10*. Trust, buy in, dedication, commitment, confidence in the staff and program, etc are absolutely key ingredients. You can have all the talent in the world, be #1 at your position in the state or the entire U.S. but if you do not do these things.......you will not be playing at Alabama while CNS is our coach. And we as fans have to trust that he knows what he is doing by taking that hard line. So I am good with Calloway going to the barn. Some lessons are learned the hard way and it sounds like Brent will be getting one.

Sorry, but I call BS!! No one who has this kind of opportunity to go to BAMA and is a TRUE fan would EVER give up and especially not go to the barn! I don't wish him luck. To me I think he'll fit right in down at the crappiest village on the plains. If he was half heartedly going to Bama we don't want him anyway. To me some of his comments shows he isn't willing to WORK for what he wants.....

Calloway is now a barner, plain and simple. The way he decommitted was not the way you should do a school and a staff that you claimed to care about, or love as he said. Some people just do not understand the true meaning of the words love or commitment. I really believe Bama will be better off without him. His slot will be filled with someone that wants to come to Bama. Those folks that are holding out some hope that he will some how come to his senses and switch back to Bama are just plain fooling themselves. I have already forgot about him. Let's all just move on.

Remember the old saying if you are scared, say you are scared, well he said that he is scared of the LB competition at Bama. I prefer the 'Never let them see you sweat' saying myself.

I don't want to hate on a player especially a person around my age but just reading what he says and watching him commit do we really want him? He has the worst attitude about everything and left because we didn't give him enough attention? He doesn't want to compete for a job? He committed to Bama as a LB but all of a sudden wants to play RB so he changes to our rival without telling our coaches? So bye we're too deep at both RB and LB for Calloway anyway, always thought he was a bit overrated.

Those quotes CS linked are telling. I don't want to jump on the piling on bandwagon, but it's best for him at the barn if competition worries him. The path to early PT is a lot easier at the barn, but I think he would've come out a better player if he came to Bama and waited his turn. Schools like us, Texas, and Florida aren't overly hurt by these type of decommitments and truthfully are better in the long run as it allows us to bring in a kid willing to work, learn, and wait for PT if there are upperclassmen ahead of him.

Dee Hart, Jadaveon Clowney, Cyrus Kouandjio, Malcolm Mitchell, Isaiah Crowell all of which I think are better players than Calloway.

I'm blown away how a kid can be "committed" to a school for what, a year and a half or more then decide a month before signing day that he is better off going elsewhere.

I bet Saban goes after 5* Curtis Grant out of Richmond VA. According to Scout.com Curtis Grant is ranked #3 OLB and Calloway is #7 OLB...

I would not be surprised to see Calloway try to switchback in a couple weeks.

I would love for us to get Grant but I think it's too late for him. His top three are OSU, Virginia and Virginia Tech and hasn't really talked about Bama for a while. He was one of the best defensive players at the Army All Star game and would fit in great at Linebacker U but seems like it's too late

Mindset is everything. If he is afraid of competition, then he isn't a 5*. I would say that about any 5*, including anyone committed to Bama. You can be the best physical athlete in the world, but be weak mentally, and go nowhere. I've seen it happen, and it isn't anything new. If he is truly afraid of competition, then he is useless to us anyway. We are way too talented to have guys intimidated or afraid of losing playing time.

That's the big thing and not just for Calloway. Give me a 2* like Javy that wants to prove himself, work hard, and earn his take over a 5* like Terrell Pryor that expects the world to be handed to him on a silver platter.
