Urban Meyer will give him a half-game suspension. He'll only play when the defense is on the field.

Should Dunlap play? SEC coaches weigh in | Solomon's Wisdom - al.com

Spurrier said he would ask some of the captains what they thought in regards to discipline. I've got to admit, I'm not a fan of "poll the players" for punishment, but I do see not wanting to punish the team for one person's mistake. It's interesting that he notes the mandatory 3 game suspension for smoking pot, but no mandatory suspension for DUI.

The punishment is much harsher than you guys think. He will be suspended for the entire remainder of the regular season, and will not be allowed to play again till the post season.

Does UF not have a curfew for its players? If so, he should be suspended for violating curfew, if for no other reason.
Well then, I guess he will be out not only for the national anthem and coin-toss, but also the opening kickoff.

He was so sheet-faced that the officer couldn't even wake him.
What? Is he in the KKK now too?

Seriously though, I hate that this happened. I want to beat Florida at full strength, so we don't have to listen to any whiney excuses. But he's gotta be suspended. I don't think Meyer has a choice.

He'll be suspended from eating at the same table as the rest of the team during the pre-game meal on Saturday. :rolleye2:

After CBS canonized Tebow Last weekend I expect to see halo's divinely appear above Tim's head and bright beams of light to follow his every move in the game this weekend too.

CUM has to suspend him. He has to draw a line as an example to all the other current players and ALL FUTURE players. There must an expectation of proper behavior and there must be REAL and painful penalties for violating the rules.

If this kid skates it could lead to a culture of permisiveness that will haunt the organization in the future.

Well,
Dunlap has violated the UofF Student Code of Conduct:
The Dean of Students Office - Student Guide

(i) Alcohol Beverages Violations.
1. Under-age possession or consumption. Possession or consumption of alcoholic beverages by a student before his or her twenty-first birthday.
2. Public intoxication. Appearing at a University activity or on the University campus in a state of intoxication.
3. Driving under the influence of alcohol or other substance. Operation of a motor vehicle while impaired or with a blood alcohol or breath alcohol level at or above the applicable legal limit (which is .08 or above as of July 1, 2008).

AND, the STUDENT ATHLETE CODE:
http://www.gatorzone.com/compliance/pdf/student_athlete/violations_code_conduct.pdf

(see #18)

So SOMETHING must be done.
It looks like it is out of Urban's hands.

Re: Carlos Dunlap out of the SECCG

The difference between my sentence and your sentence is my sentence makes sense.
The difference between my sentence and your sentence is I was intentionally trying to be grammatically incorrect, which can be perceived as funny, however yours cannot.

Chemical or Physical Test Provisions (Implied Consent Law)-s. 316.1932, F.S., s. 316.1933, F.S., s. 316.1934, F.S, s. 316.1939, F.S
  • Refusal: Refusal to submit to a breath, urine, or blood test is admissible as evidence in DUI criminal proceedings. Second or subsequent refusal is a misdemeanor of the first degree.
  • Driver License Suspension Periods: First refusal, suspended for 1 year. Second or subsequent refusals, suspended for 18 months.
To expand on that... I'm not familiar with the application of laws in Florida but it seems like most states tend to apply the stiffest of the "above BAC of .15" penalties when a blood alcohol test is refused. In most states it's no longer a good idea to refuse the breathalyzer as it brings down the fury of the courts.

True it appears to be a violation of the Code, but a hearing would be required even for this, which will take time. So he may even be kicked out of school, after the post-season and after he declares for the NFL draft.

Earlier I took a short-cut when I said refusing the breathalyzer made him guilty of DUI. I was referring to the implied consent rule, where you lose your license and it is evidence of intoxication. Interestingly enough, I served on a jury that acquitted an alleged drunk driver who refused the breathalyzer in Georgia. Even though we recognized the refusal as evidence, other evidence supported acquittal.

As for violating curfew, come on what time zone are we talking about? I mean he didn't violate curfew in the Pacific Time Zone (in honor of Bobby Bowden, how I'll miss his dadgum, aw shucks approach to fielding a team of felons).

The midnight mass defense is a stroke of brilliance!

Re: Carlos Dunlap arrested for DUI (out for SECCG?)

But at this point it's the player who's punishing his team by being selfish, not the Coach.
Exactly, with that kind of thinking, there should be no repercussions for anything because it would "hurt" someone that was innocent. "Don't arrest that man; although he killed someone, he has a children and wife at home that don't deserve to lose their bread winner and nurturing father". PLEASE...

Bingo! That was Bill King's point as well on Rivals Radio this morning. Selfish acts call for the team/coach to implement discipline.

I could care less about having to hear excuses. I'm sure there have been plenty of excuses over the last 100 years or so of college football, but hardly anyone remembers them. We remember Championships by the fact that we got'em, not how we got'em.

If we have a better chance of winning because Dunlap's not playing, then I'm easily jumping on that bandwagon. Excuses don't count for anything, only results.

Re: Carlos Dunlap arrested for DUI (out for SECCG?)

I suppose the question is what type of message does he want to send?

If he's Kiffin, clearly the guy plays because he's not in jail.
However, at what point to you sacrifice future discipline for a short-term advantage?

Meyer has to suspend him for the upcoming game if he wants to send a message. We saw how big the eye gouging thing was, if a DUI doesn't get a one game suspension you'll hear a lot from people concerned that he's condoning drunk driving.
