Charlie Kirk Part III

So Kimmel got suspended for saying something absolutely wrong.

I remember him praising when Tucker Carlson got fired from Fox or when Trump got suspended from Twitter. So what's the difference here.

I could argue both sides are hypocrites simply because they are going to do whatever is politically advantageous to them.

Difference here I see....the left has said conservatives should be canceled because they are "inciting violence" or they are "fascists" or "Nazis" or some other outlandish thing.

The right, specifically Bondi, said she was going to prosecute "hate speech" and folks like Matt Walsh called for her to be fired immediately because of it. She backed off that crazy statement as soon as she could as far I could see.

(Side note - there is no such thing as "hate speech," there is just speech you don't like) The government shouldn't have any way to punish you for what you said because it was deemed "hateful." Now, there will probably be social consequences, employment consequences etc.....but not government consequences.

I even saw where the Illinois Governor got on Psaki's show on MSNBC and said something along the lines that democracy is being taken away because Kimmel was suspended....and that if people don't act now they will have an authoritarian government.

When one side keeps yelling to their base that the other side is a threat to democracy, a bunch of fascists and Nazis.....you're basically asking for violence against the other side.

"Great News for America: The ratings challenged Jimmy Kimmel Show is CANCELLED. Congratulations to ABC for finally having the courage to do what had to be done," "Kimmel has ZERO talent, and worse ratings than even Colbert, if that's possible. That leaves Jimmy and Seth, two total losers, on Fake News NBC. Their ratings are also horrible. Do it NBC!!! President DJT."

Can we get a new President who is not fixated on destroying everyone he simply doesn't like and bullying executives into firing/cancelling/whatever, anyone who shines a light on his behavior and actions?

MAGA folks have lost the high ground if they ever want to complain about Karens, or even snowflakes.

All it took was a man who had big breasted women jumping on trampolines to be fired to get dems to care about government overreach.
I'm not a fan of the government trying to "silence" anyone. People should be allowed to say what they want without fear from their government. They should not, however, be immune from other repercussions.

I think they should just let Kimmel's show die the slow death it is hurtling towards. I don't what happened to that guy. He and Adam Corolla were hilarious on "The Man Show". Why he felt the need to become the savior of the world is beyond me.

I don't stay up late to watch any of the shows, anyway. I loved Letterman, but that was back when he had Chris Elliot's zany gags, stupid pet tricks, and other assorted gags.

Actually, I prefer it when evil people get to say heinous things. It makes it easier to spot the evil people and avoid them.
Cross-burning is illegal in Virginia, but I would prefer that law be repealed. Then if no crosses are burned anywhere (which I expect would be the case), we would know that it is because no one wants to burn a cross. As of now, with the law in place, it could be that they want to burn a cross, but cannot because it is illegal.

Anyway, in my view, the proper response to a bad argument is a good argument, not censoring the bad arguer.

Yep. These shows are not popular amongst the largest demographics (millennials and Gen Z). Trump had nothing to do with Colbert's show being canceled, although he tried to take a victory lap for it. It was a terrible product. That was in the works for a while. I didn't watch it, nor do I watch Kimmel. And, it has nothing to do with their political views.

They both can be genuine and both can be insincere; that completely depends on the person.

There are a lot of times where sympathy is the only thing I can offer someone because I've never been through what they're going through or dealt with the emotions that situation brings. I'm also not an overly emotional type of person, where I can manufacture emotions on demand to fit a situation. Crazy enough, I know people who can do that, and sometimes I wish I had that gift. It would help me not come across so "gruff" sometimes (as my wife tells me I can come across). LOL!
Sounds like most women I know...

Seeing the Epstein files is becoming as rare as seeing how fast Titus Ryan could run or Duron Carter playing for Alabama...
I was in high school and our tent was set up next to a private school's at the state track meet in Tuscaloosa. We were gambling with the rich kids on the races and I had read the newspaper that morning and saw Titus Ryan was supposed to break the state record in the 100. We bet 20 dollars on the race and I told the kid that I had Titus and he said, "OK, I'll take the kid wearing the Wildcat jersey." The dude wearing the Wildcat jersey blew everyone out of the water and I was ticked. I paid him his money when all of a sudden it hit me. As the kid in the blue jersey was walking by me I said, "Hey! What is your name?". He said, "Titus". I walked over to that kid and snatched my $20 back and said, "Bro, we bet on the same guy!".

Regardless of what I posted a day ago, I do not think Kimmel's comments were in any way celebrating Kirk's death. Critizing a party's reaction is not celebrating a death.

You know you’ve crossed the line when Disney cancels your show.
It was not Disney that first removed the show, that was Nexstar, from all their owned stations. Just follow the money, it is always about the money. Nexstar is trying to get a $6.2B merger approved by this corrupt Trump FCC and chose to bend the knee.

Nexstar Media Group, Inc. Enters into Definitive Agreement To Acquire TEGNA Inc. for $6.2 Billion in Accretive Transaction | Nexstar Media Group, Inc.
That, or Disney is desperate to bend the knee. Do they have any pending acquisitions that will require federal approval?
Disney continues to bend the knee.

Next, merger approved.

Responding to various posts as it’s too complicated to quote everyone.

1. What is a gay bakery?
2. I support cross burning being legal if it is part of their meeting and it’s not in public view and the landowners give permission. If it is done to intimidate or in a black guy’s yard that’s a different story.
3. I understand Kimmel said the shooting was done by a MAGA person. That was wrong and he should retract that comment. But he shouldn’t lose his job over it.

Good point. I feel similarly about the bakery being forced to bake a cake for a gay couple and similar incidents. Unless it is some place like a hospital, delivering a service or selling a good should be a mutually approved transaction. While I think it is a foolish business plan not to bake a cake for a gay customer (and forgoing revenue and likely offending a lot of other non-gay customers), that should be the bakery owner's* right. And one should not have to have a religious reason for making that decision. It's freedom of choice. And freedom to reap the consequences - from the LGBT community and all potential customers as a whole - from the applied business model.

*I would caution an employee of said business against making such a unilateral decision. Stay in your lane. You represent the business owner, and if you deny a potential customer, you're depriving your boss of revenue. If you do something to damage the business without permission, you'll be out of a job.

Okay, so I found an interesting tweet that explains the difference between "cancel culture" and the "consequences of your actions." Because the tweet has language that cannot be used here, I have decided to post the tweet, editing the salt so that it is board friendly. I will not link to this tweet, either.

With Kimmel getting canned I’m seeing lots of people talking about the hypocrisy of cancel culture. To me Cancel culture is when people go out of their way to dig up old tweets, videos etc looking for dirt on somebody they don’t like in an effort to get them fired. Like if Kimmel got canceled for stuff he did on the Man Show that would be cancel culture. But when a person says something that a ton of people find offensive, rude, dumb in real time and then that person is punished for it that’s not cancel culture. That is consequences for your actions

I realize that words can evolve over time, but when the term "cancel culture" started making the rounds, this is exactly the type of behavior it was criticizing. And now that I'm reading this and remembering, I realize that the tweeter here is 100% correct.

When I was in high school I went to bed at nine pm and couldn't wait to be an adult so I could choose my own bed time.

As it turns out, I tend to choose 9pm more often than not now that I'm over 50.
