Decline of the GOP - XVII

Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) says Donald Trump has delivered on his promise to lower prices and gets an “A” on the economy.

PabloReports: Do you think Donald Trump has delivered on his promise to lower prices?

Donalds: Yeah, he actually has. I remember where we were with the Biden administration.

PabloReports: What grade would you give him on the economy?

Donalds: He gets an “A.”

This MAGA Trump sycophant wants to be governor of Florida.

What a liar and/or buffoon.

Since the end of 2024 inflation is up 5.27% and energy costs are up 12.5%

That’s objectively and statistically higher.

Republican State Senator Travis Holdman — who lost by over 20 points — isn’t taking it very well.

“Revenge & retribution is not a Christian value.”

All you had to do was listen to your constituents.

I WOULD say that sooner or later, these halfwit establishment Republicans will get it......but I'm betting they won't.

So, our future governor is an old washed-up football coach that doesn’t know how government works, hasn’t done a dang thing in DC besides being a mouthpiece for Trump, doesn’t even live in this state on a regular basis, hasn’t once in commercials or interviews talked about his vision for Alabama or what his goals will be as governor.

All he does is spout the same MAGA nonsense that doesn’t even apply to this state because it is already 70% controlled by the GOP.

Yet he is polling at 65% for their GOP primary. He hasn’t given anyone a single positive reason that he should be governor and is already the winner.

I’m not even saying a democrat should be governor, there are other GOP options that at least talk about a vision for the state and would be better than Dumberville.

My current, and likely future, Alabama State Senator is 89 and has been in Montgomery for 53 years.

I saw an ad for Jabbo on TV and was shocked he was still in office. He was first elected to the state House the day Lurleen Wallace was elected governor.

We have term limits. They are called elections. Everyone whines about term limits but unless you are on the Epstein list you are probably going to be re-elected.

term limits would be nice, but apparently that isn't going to happen. It looks like certain people want no term limits of any kind including presidential term limits.
The PTBs want the Ric Flair philosophy of politics, "if you want to be the man you gotta beat the man." while having the window to tighten their grip in power while in office.

Partisan politics above all else. It's (sadly) become the American way...

I can't imagine that he can physically and cognitively fulfill this role.
I can't help but agree. Still, I think seniors get a bad rap for being slow and dull-witted just because they're seniors. Truth is, some of them have been slow and dull-witted their entire lives. At this point, they're just older versions of the same unimpressive people.

Which leads directly to my next point: we can't honestly say that district would be better off without knowing exactly who the other options are. God knows, being younger doesn't necessarily make one brighter; a fact I am reminded of daily. Every time I see some cerebral eunuch trying to push his way through a door that is clearly marked "pull" I can't help but be reminded that this person votes. Hell, he or she could conceivably run for office and win because of a good schtick.

I really do fear Tubberville as governor. I have tried to convince people in my family to vote for any other GOP candidate instead of him. I fear Tubs because both my wife and I work for the state and he has indicated that he wants to go DOGE on our state government.

Now I know many of you on this board believe that is good, and I agree, there is plenty of wasteful spending at our agency. My fear is that Musk’s DOGE achieved the majority of their cuts by eliminating jobs even though employee salaries and benefits only account for 4% to 5% of the federal budget. I fear Tubs will just start cutting jobs. My wife has only had her job for about 8 months, so her job could be on the line if cuts start happening. Last in, first out type of thing. She also works for the state DOE which will probably be another target of Tubberville.

There are plenty of ways to save the state money without firing people and ruining their lively hood.

Meanwhile, here is Georgia we keep having an extra surplus of cash and the governor gives it back to the people. We are getting an extra $250-$500.

Cut out pork to the corporations and wealthy first. They can handle it.

If you want to cut employees, let attrition handle a good bit of it and give people time to move on.

Of course... That will never happen!

That's my view. I can't say I disagree with his politics because he really doesn't disclose anything meaningful. But come on, he's 89. He's been in office for 50 years and look where our state ranks in just about any meaningful stat.

That is just too long... I really feel that the elected government should be full of fresher individuals who at least rotate out for a while. Term limits for the house and senate would be good in my book. And for the supreme court. Nobody should stay in those positions for decades at a time.

Well, I'm working on 87 and about halfway there. There are not many "serving" in Montgomery, of any age, who could keep up with me mentally. However, and everyone in his/her 80s knows it, you can't depend on continuing physical health forever. About a year and half ago, I had started to think I was going to draw on the longevity genes in the family. (My aunt, my mother's youngest sister, died last year at almost 105.) Then, I was suddenly fighting for my life, and the battle's not over. I think entering into a term of office at 89 is irresponsible in the extreme. I mean that even if he's sharp as a tack mentally.

I mean, if at this point in the 2nd Trump administration, you are still all-in on the agenda, you've got a lot more things to worry about. Such as your very sanity.

Truly, the only Trumpsters I have in my life right now are very few, one ardent MAGA brother, the other is semi-invalid, yet he tows the line out of senility(I think).

Other than that, my wife has a few friends of that stripe, but I can't think of any personal friend who follows the Orange One. I'm just not wired to give those people the time of day.
