they can do what they like doesnt bother me. just like when the two aubarn doofs came to our section wednesday night with a sign with the last 3 years of football scores on it taunting us. i didnt say anything and i didnt call them classless, its part of our rivalry so its all in good fun(or atleast for me anyways). who am i to call it classless? maybe it is, maybe it isnt? who cares and who wants to be that nit picky about it(well nevermind.....). im not gonna sit at a ballgame and do nothing and be as quiet as i can and not have what i call 'fun'(others too it seems).

As I have said from the beginning...You are as entitled to your opinion as I am to mine. I personally do not believe that standing for class and integrity, acting like you have been there before, etc. is being nitpicky, nor do I feel that taunting is "all good fun" despite how the majority of people on an internet message board thread feel. I guess Coach Bryant just taught me differently.
 
look, almost any chant you find thats involved with sports can be considered taunting somehow. honestly i could care less what coach bryant taught you, im sure myself and many other bama fans(and about 90% of all other fans)will continue to do the same things we enjoy whether you think its classy or not(honestly we could care less). you can call me the scum of the earth but im not changing for you nor do i have to change for anyone but myself. you'd figure that with all us 'classless' fans you would think about maybe staying at home since it bugs you that much :conf2:

and I don't mean just citing examples of what you constitute these things to be....

and BL92, I am sorry that you are unable to go to a game and delve into the experience that is college football....what temperature do you keep your stuffy presidential suite at?

I thoroughly enjoy watching college football and going to games as much as I enjoyed playing in them. Thanks for your concern.

My aren't you painting with a broad brush! I have not condemned anyone. To the contrary, I have consistently said it is your right to taunt and act classless if you like. It does not address cheering FOR the team rather than AGAINST the other. I simply stated that taunting was classless. Nothing more or less. If you think this is every thing fans do then I am saddened. I hope I am mistaken in my understanding of your assertion.

I enjoy the game immensely actually cheering FOR the team. I simply find no enjoyment in taunting. If you do, then good for you.

I am judging no one, and haven't I pointed any fingers. I am stating my opinion. You do not have to like it, just as I don't have to like yours. Don't be getting offended when someone states that something that is classless is classless. By all means come to the games and act as big of an idiot as you like. Paint yourself purple for all I care. It offends me not, but it apparently gets under your thin skin as well as others when someone tells the truth about that sort of behaviour.

I have seen some disappointing remarks in this thread though and wish some would try harder to soften the personal attacks.

When did I ever state that you weren't free to think what you like?

And I never agreed with you that the chanting was taunting, therefor I never stated that your only choices were to support the ceremony or taunt. I don't think it's taunting. You clearly presume to know each and every person's intention (talk about painting with a broad brush!). I'm doing no such thing. I'm merely speaking up when I see you judging others, and unfairly labelling them as classless, as though you are the be-all-end-all judge and jury of who and what is classy/classless.

You are in no position to make such judgements. Even if you were, I think your behavior in this thread discredits any sort of respect your opinion may have.

im not offended by any of that. like i said before call me what you will; if i had it to do all over again id still chant USC just to tick off the 'high and mighty' crowd that seemed to be there too.

Class - "Auburn and a great season. It was a helluva run, good job."

Pretty simple, methinks, but maybe being in my thirties makes me too old as I remember the days of "act like you've been there before..."

Well, it looks like this thread has run its course, but for what it's worth, I think that there has to be a happy medium:

Total CLASS-Cheering for Auburn as they receive the trophy and wishing them good luck next year.

Total CLASSLESSNESS-Yelling negative things about Auburn as a whole like callling them a bunch of cheaters and yelling that they were just lucky with some very colorful language mixed in.

Somewhere in the middle (such as yelling USC) is appropriate. Yelling USC does not knock the program as a whole; it just reminds them that in even their best year, someone else had a better year.

While I do agree with much of what BamaLaw92 has said in this thread, it is quite obvious that he has tried to mix it with the rest of you and attempted to give antagonism as good as he has received it. I would like to think that I would have tried a slightly less confrontational approach.

Of course, on the other hand, we lawyers don't have to try to be elitist. We're just naturally better than everyone else. ;)

Wow, this thread is awesome, like watching a fight in the middle school hallways. Roll Tide!

PS...I remind Auburn fans of USC every chance I get, if that makes me classless, so what, it brings a smile to my face. It's college football people, we're not curing cancer.
 
Oh, and being classy is offering a spot at your tailgate to a rival before and after the game. Being classy is letting them drink your beer and stuff their face while sitting on your tailgate. Being classy is buying them a drink(s) on the strip before/after the game.


But lets get one thing straight... when we are in the gym/stadium, anything goes. I have had several 'other' fans say I was classy, and I was absolutely an awesome host at games right after I boo'd their team in the stadium. I think certain things, while inside the arena, are to be expected from rival fans. What other fans will remember is how we act outside that arena.


I think most of you know that I frequent Soonerfans.com just about as much as I do this board. I'd hope everyone could put two and two together to figure out why. For those that cant...

I used to hate OU back in the 80's, mainly because of my father, but my recent trip there has totally changed my opinion of that school, and its fans. Dont get me wrong, they were just as rabid and rude inside their stadium as any fanbase in the nation. However, the night before the game, i had a bar tab of 3 bucks, yet I dont remember my friends driving me home. I do remember being invited to several parties the next day, even by some students. On game day, I parked for free in some guy that I met the night before's yard, hung out in his house and shot pool til noon, went to their tailgate spot and ate all their food and drank all their pepsi (friends drank beer, I wasnt in the mood b/c of the night before, plus
I'm not a beer drinker), went to the game and promptly lost, left the stadium to meet my friends (tickets were apart from each other) and didnt make it half way around before an OU fan was shaking my hand and offering me a beer and a spot under their tent.

Yes, there were ppl inside the stadium that did everytC while inside the arena, are to be expected from rival fans. What other fans will remember is how we act outside that arena.

Yes, there were ppl inside the stadium that did everything they could to make my experience a living hell, but that was BY FAR the best road trip I ever made. I think the things that happen outside the stadium trump the stuff inside. I know damn well which of the two made the bigger impression on me.

Oh, and I think the student section gets a free pass when it comes to acting "classy" inside a stadium. If anything, students are SUPPOSED to act like crazy animals... its why I like to sit in that section.
