"California has expanded the scope of a travel ban that took effect in January to include states that have laws discriminating against LGBTQ people.

The ban forbids state-funded travel to states that, since June 26, 2015, have enacted laws discriminating against people on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.

California Attorney General Xavier Becerra added four more states to the travel ban on Thursday—Alabama, Kentucky, South Dakota and Texas—doubling the number of the blacklisted states initially included in the legislation."

I'm sure we could find someone else willing to take that game check.

Re: Fresno State at Bama in jeopardy?

Why did it even start here in the first place. Are we not playing them to come play? So how is the state of Ca funding the trip. The law says its a ban on state funded trips. If UA is paying them to come play how is the state funding it.

From what I've seen, this only affects trips that were not contracted before 2017. Therefore, no, the game is not in jeopardy.

California public schools recruiting Texas and Alabama, OTOH....

And now, we're going to take this over to NS where it belongs.

you are correct, it doesn't affect already scheduled games

Re: Fresno State at Bama in jeopardy?

What kind of offense is Fresno running nowadays?

(Ultimately vain attempt to keep this in the football forum).

Wow. This could be interesting around bowl season time. I guess USC (or any Cal team) vs anyone in Dallas as a season opener is out also.

USC is a private school, so in my mind, the ban wouldn't apply to them. Stanford would also be in the same category as USC.

It may be private, but it receives loads of California public dollars in the form of research grants and student financial aid. I guess it depends on what is really meant by "state-funded" travel since money is typically fungible.

You're right that they do receive that money. I'm pretty sure that even a broad interpretation of "state-funded" travel would not include private universities.

Somewhat similar would be the DOE's interpretation of how Title IX applies to private schools receiving federal money.

Re: Fresno State at Bama in jeopardy?

I think California is just like any other entity. If there is a significant payday involved, they will find a loophole around their cute little rules.
