Guillon breaks silence on his quitting team

MG broke the silence? More like he broke wind. Not much said there.

"in the interest of self-preservation"

What's that supposed to mean? Man, this whole saga with him is just wierd! Oh well, good luck to him whatever he decides to do! Sounds like it's best for all parties concerned!

He would have been better off staying silent. He could have gone out with class, but instead, had to take one last potshot at the coaching staff. Reeealll nice.

“I thought long and very hard about the circumstances of the situation which put me at a breaking point. This crossroad forced me to make a tough decision in the interest of self-preservation based on numerous false impressions the coaches gave me.

What the heck does that mean? How is leaving a team midway through the season when you're the 2nd string QB in your final eligible year self-preservation? Seems like that would just put more question marks around you if you tried to continue your football career professionally. Seems more like an act of sports career suicide...unless he is still eligible to play elsewhere like in Div II?

Lastly, I want to express a great deal of gratitude towards all ‘Bama fans. I truly appreciate all the tireless support they give, and am confident in saying they are the best fans in college football.”
Well, this is nice but I doubt he's endeared himself to many fans after quitting midway through the season...

He "emailed" this?? Guess he is the same type kind of guy that will break up with a girl on a post it note;) I know he was upset but you know, I bet I could find 20 people without a lick of talent that would have given anything for the chance he had just to be part of the team. I hate it for him because he is young and he has already quit twice because he "felt" as though he wasn't getting a something he deserved. Guess it is true about having to work for it, nothing will ever be given to you.

Well, I have no speculation ... but I hope some of the better connected folks can maybe shed some light on this.

The fact that the "knowing ones" have been real quiet about this makes me a little nervous.

Marc Guillon doesn't like Mike Shula...Mike Shula doesn't like Marc Guillon.

Whether anyone here will admit it between Guillon bashing posts, that was a very audacious move in his part.

Ok guys, do you all believe that the coaches have nothing to possibly do with this? Unless your Marc Guillon or Mike Shula you probably dont know what was said, promised or anything for that matter. Im not taking either side but I think its a little niave to think that the coaches are beyond false promises. Either way I dont see any reason to bash Guillion. Im sure it had to be something for him to stay until his senior year and then quit in the middle of the year.

you should never base any thing on an "impression"...anyway, I'm sure QB is like any other position, if you win the starting role...you're the starter...that's the impression I've always been under.

There is no doubt that he would have been better off finishing out the year, ie Junction Boys. I suspect that he might have issues that create some very difficult times, maybe periods of oversensitivity. It's hard for me to understand those who are blaming Shula because;

1. He quit Miami for basically the same reason.
2. He did not perform very well in his two starts against mid level SEC teams.

This decision produced short term instant gratification but tarnished his college football legacy permenently. If I was his father, I would have flown down there and attempted to persuade him to dig in and finish the year. Maybe some spiritual guidance?
