If it is his 1st offense he could be shown leniency and receive help.
:eek2::eek2::eek2:

Pointing a gun in someone's face isn't something I generally feel should be shown leniency. IF that is what happened, then he was one small mistake away from killing someone. I don't think a little slap on the wrist and "counseling" would do anything. That type of thinking is exactly why we have so many violent criminals running around America today.

So he should remain silent? I think more of him for owning up to it than not.
This, for me, would only apply if he had turned himself in. His honesty, under these circumstances, is somewhat tainted.

I agree, but let's keep his victim in mind. This turned out well, as armed robberies go, but someone could have been killed. Leniency? Perhaps - because prison surely isn't going to turn him around - but what else might?

Maybe a few years in the military?

For any teenager to throw their future away is maddening enough but to see a young man with SO MUCH athletic talent & an all-expenses paid scholarship to a major D1 university - to just frivolously toss it all away is mind-numbing . . .

And for the grand total of $26.00.

Twenty-Six Dollars and No/cents!!!

God bless him; he's gonna need all the prayers he can get!

I haven't actually seen a witness report. All I know is that he had a gun and used it to rob the guys. He could have just pulled it out of he jacket threateningly. It might not have been loaded. So to say he was one small mistake away is assuming a lot.

I'm not saying he should be shown leniency, but I am saying jumping to conclusions based on vague news reports is not something I am prepared to do. If you have seen proof that he put a gun in the people's face please post.

This guy had a wonderful opportunity for a free education while playing on a team that is destined to be something special. There are thousands of young men wishing they had the chance that was given him. He blew it and it is not the University's responsibility to turn his life around. That is now between him and the legal system.

We need to forget about the $26 he heisted. It could have been several hundred or thousand dollars. The real issue is threatening another person with a hand gun.

Committing armed robbery is a very serious offense. I have a hand gun carry permit and recall how my instructor repeatedly stressed that you never abuse the right to carry a concealed weapon. Specifically, never point a gun at anyone unless you intend to use it.

I think you meant to say twenty-six dollars and no sense
I originally typed something very similar but edited it back out before posting because it had a sarcastic ring about it; but I have to agree that JE's act showed a complete vacuum where logic is concerned. I well imagine [IF Guilty] he will be replaying this one episode over & over in his mind for the rest of his days...

Well, this wasn't a big surprise to me regarding the circumstances. Innocent until proven guilty sounds nice and all, but sometimes that's without thinking logically and trying to be politically correct. I'll leave it at that.

Hard to be innocent if you confess:
TUSCALOOSA -- University of Alabama defensive lineman Jeremy Elder has admitted to robbing two UA students at gunpoint Saturday night, according to court documents obtained by the Press-Register.

I could care less if he put it to their temple or aimed it at his own crotch. If someone pulls a gun on me I ASSUME they will kill me. From that point on I will do anything and everything within my power to kill them first. Splitting hairs about what exactly he did with the gun is completely irrelevant. He put himself and those students in a DEADLY situation. I try to be on the side of giving the benefit of the doubt to our players, but considering he admitted to doing this, I would rather have him not ever step foot in the state of Alabama again. However he would be considered one of the good guys here in Baltimore.

Hey guys, on the flip side, if one of our players is having to rob college students for $26, then there should be no worry that any of them have been receiving "extra benefits" from boosters.

I know, I know, not a whole lot of silver lining to this cloud, but that's about the only positive I could remotely find in this.

Sad day for Alabama and sad day for the Elder family. I hope he can get his life straight.

someone on another board said go to the service. This is a great idea. 13 months in Afghanastan or Iraq will change his idea about getting guns pointed at you.
