Re: Jordan Jefferson in serious barfight

If I was the starting quarterback for a team in the top 5, with the first game on national TV just days away, and I got sucker punched and dog cussed in a bar after I snuck out of the dorm, the smart thing to do would still be to walk away.

They get hit plenty in practice, just take another hit, then go on to a great football season.

Re: Jordan Jefferson in serious barfight

We just need to stay away from any recruits with the initials JJ. Janzen Jackson bolted from us on signing day, Jordan Jefferson and Josh Johns have been arrested. I need to look at the roster again to predict the next occurence.

Florida had Janoris Jenkins. Where does this end?
It does seem a weird coincidence...we seemed to have had our own little issues with coaches name Mike in the past...:D

Dang off the subject of this quarterback thingy I just wanted to stat the obvious CC your a very pretty woman :) Just sayin and I hope that didn't break another rule but if it did you would be worth a couple days suspension :)
Nominated for creepiest post of the year.;)

To me, this makes the LSU vs Oregon game even more interesting. I look forward to seeing if LSU can pull through this and win the game.

I may be showing some ignorance here, but I honestly don't know.

Once the NCAA has declared their pre-season rankings, do they reserve the right to re-adjust it based on occurrences that might happen prior to the season opener? I'm sure they do. I just can't recollect any times in the past where something like this has happened, especially this close to the opener.

So will LSU drop from their spot before their season begins?

Re: Jordan Jefferson in serious barfight

1. It is a sad statement, but if you are a high profile football player and you go into a bar, there is a decent chance that some drunk bonehead is going to try to fight you. I've heard about it and seen it. It is not limited to college, either. Even when it is obvious the drunk is going to get his skull caved in, it happens. It is one reason bar owners invite athletes to sit in VIP areas isolated from the rest of the, um, patrons. But the same alcohol that impaired the bonehead's judgment to the point he thought he could fight you (and several of your teammates) is also impairing your judgment to just get the heck out of the situation (or tell the bartender that he needs to call up the bouncers and get rid of the guy before there is trouble). At worst, the third string lb is supposed to get in the way enough to give the star a chance to get home. Apparently JJ was unable to do any of this. Not saying he was guilty of anything, because I don't know, except being dumb enough to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

2. If I was an LSU fan, and I will be at least as they play Oregon, I'd be worried about what happens if Lee goes down, even for just a quarter or so. I don't think I'm breaking board policy if I mention (and I acknowledge that he helped put the fork in us last year) that Lee is not exactly likely to win a footrace of starting SEC quarterbacks -- or SEC linebackers.

No problem...(but I'll keep my eye on you just the same);)

use a pm for your lusty flirtin- riz is the only one allowed to openly flirt with every girl on here. well, this being the internet, you are assuming they are girls... but i digress.

back to the subject- im not sure who is worse to deal within a bar- a bunch of privileged and spoiled drunken athletes or a bunch of obnoxious horny military guys. this is one of those situations where i think it is best for them to beat some sense into each other.

btw- death threats from random marines can be hazardous to ones health.
Lol, true...it's a risk you take on the interwebs...

Re: Jordan Jefferson in serious barfight

Clarifications:

1. Only Jefferson and Johns have been suspended, the other two players questioned by the police have not been arrested.

2. The police are taking a lot of heat locally for the way they have handled this. They have leaked the stories from the alleged victims from day one, but nothing of the LSU players versions of the fight and one week after the event have still not interviewed any independent witnesses, many that have told stories contradictory to the alleged victims stories. They released the original police report before any arrests were made, which is unprecedented. The attorney for Jefferson and John is livid and is vowing further investigation. The BRPD seems to be eager to turn this over to the DA and wash their hands of it.

3. The fans are ready to move on and they approve of the suspensions. 91% approve of how Les is handling the situation and most feel that at this point LSU must name a new starter and move on with only a week left to game one. These two young men's careers are in ruins, even if they are never indicted or ever proven guilty in court, which will be a real tragedy.

4. It has been a rough summer with a one-year probation handed out by the NCAA, allegations about Willie Lyles, starting WR Shepards ineligibility, Kragthorpe's diagnosis with Parkinsons and his stepping down as OC, and now the starting quarterback is suspended. But Les pulled his team together after Hurricane Katrina made a wasteland of campus and south Louisiana and took it to the SECCG. They will either be distracted and lose focus . . . or they will pull together and leave their problems behind. Time will tell.

I'm sure they'll just let the chips fall where they may allowing LSU to decide on the field where they are ranked in week 2.

you dont get to that level of competition by "turning the other cheek." you get there by competing against, and dominating, everyone you face.

The NCAA has nothing to do with the pre-season rankings. The AP and the coaches are not going to release a new poll just because of the stuidity of a few kids. They'll let the chips fall where they will when the games have been played. These types of issue come up almost every year (players get suspened) and they have never released a new poll so, I don't see why it would be any different now.

I've been at bars in Tuscaloosa with tons of Bama football players in them and I think their biggest problem isnt people picking fights with them it is with every random fan coming up and saying Ingram you're the man when they are trying to have a good time with their friends.

I had a two of my friends in college get attacked by football players because we wouldn't let them into the fraternity house (for prior ridiculous actions in the house). The media and the school all played it as the frat guys must have started stuff with the football players, even though that couldn't have been further from the truth. The school did an epic coverup job and the both of the players were eventually arrested which just added to the poor football player conversations.

A lot of these guys are aggresive by nature and they know they are bigger than everyone so if any words are exchanged in combination with alcohol they can't control themselves. Idk know what happend but the fact that they have been arrested to me says it wasnt a case of they got attacked and just won the fight.

Re: Jordan Jefferson in serious barfight

Per this, the 2 have been released and the trial is likely headed to a Grand Jury.

EDIT for clarification:

A local attorney explained to the Advocate that the DA would take that tack “in a high-profile case… to remove any appearance of bias from the D.A.”

I agree with rolltide..nc2a has nothing to do with school rankings and owing to some cases they have handled in the past I'm certainly glad they don't. my hats off to ''the hat" if he sticks to his guns.

Jefferson had a choice: He could demonstrate to a rowdy drunk crowd of maybe 30 or 50 people in a bar parkinglot what a tough guy he was, and how he didn't take any gruff from anybody, and put himself in jeapordy of being arrested, or he could have walked away and demonstrated what a good quarterback he was to millions of football fans on national tv.

The smart choice is obvious.

I certainly won't say they've improved if JJ is suspended, but they definitely haven't dropped off much. Both JJ and Lee are horrid QBs. JJ just has an added edge of athleticism that Lee doesn't. So, yeah, they lose that....but.....
