Here's some thoughts from the Iowa State people. This was posted on an Auburn site, and apparently is from an Ames, Iowa, sports writer.

Chizik's game day performance speaks for itself and his Saturday state of confusion bordered on comical at times, if you subscribe to the theory that it's better to laugh than cry, that is. He might someday have the mental capacity to manage a game as head coach, but it's not there yet. The next opposing coach that Chizik outsmarts will be the first. Without vastly superior athletes, he was rendered impotent as a coach and when all three phases became his ultimate responsibility, he gagged on it. Chizik coordinated defenses at Auburn and Texas; but as a head coach, all he coordinated was disarray. The Cyclone sideline resembled a fire drill more often than not in crucial situations and the number of delay of game penalties and wasted time outs that could be attributed to him and his staff was a career's worth, not two season's worth. The defense was ultimately dumbed down not so the players could understand it, but so the coaches could manage it. And even then they failed.

Defensive genius?? LMAO.. .something is definitely wrong in aubieland. OTOH it's the greatest Christmas present they could possibly give - to us and the rest of the SEC!!
It's one that will keep on giving for years to come. :hurray:

I am very surprised -- in a good way of course. As far as this guy being a defensive guru, I think [ame="http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3767115"]Auburn Tigers hire Gene Chizik - ESPN@@AMEPARAM@@http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=3768045@@AMEPARAM@@3768045[/ame].

But he's gone just 5-19 in two seasons at Iowa State -- including a 2-10 mark in 2008. The Cyclones went winless in Big 12 play this season, and their win total has dipped in each of the past three seasons.
Chizik's defense regressed in every major statistical category this season. The Cyclones worsened from 65th to 111th nationally in total defense, 93rd to 110th in scoring defense, 44th to 95th in rushing defense and 91st to 115th in total defense.
Their struggles were particularly apparent in the Big 12 game, which has become one of the nation's highest-scoring conferences in the last several seasons. The Cyclones allowed at least 28 points in every conference game this season and at least 422 yards of total offense. Iowa State also had allowed 28 points in 14 of 16 conference games under Chizik.
Iowa State currently has a 10-game losing streak which ranks tied for the second longest in FBS football with SMU. Washington has the longest at 14 games.

I couldn't believe it when I found out he was hired. Unbeleivable. I thought it was just a smokescreen.

So, the three new coaches in the SEC are Kiffen, Mullen, and Chizik. I can't help but to feel underwhelmed.

Of all those, I think MSU made the best hire.

When I heard this, I thought it was a joke... I was saying to myself "Not even those morons on the Auburn board are this dumb"... I am at a loss for words, they could have hired Tyrone Willingham and I would have been less shocked... Here is a question, why didn't they hire Turner Gill? I mean of their realistic candidates, he scared me the most, he coached two Heisman trophy QBs at Nebraska, is a GREAT recruiter, and is winning AT BUFFALO... decent resume... then Gene Chizik, was a decent defensive coordinator at Texas and Auburn(but look at the TALENT he was coaching) and at Iowa Stae, well, 3-9 last year and 2-10 this year... Do I need to mention a 10 game LOSING STREAK???

Now I won't make this a race thing like the media will(can't wait till Charles Barkley gets to rant on this hire ) but honestly, I have to ponder those thoughts myself as a white male... Gill is THREE TIMES the proven coach that Chizik is, race aside...

This is such an anemic hire ... and has provoked such outrage already among Auburnites ... that I think I'll wait till they actually have the press conference before I celebrate too much.

But I will indulge in a few snickers ....
