Now - no, not every voter for Trump in any of his three elections is AUTOMATICALLY "a member of the cult," either.

But I'm sorry, I've never seen anything like this. I thought the Clinton voters of the 90s were bad at defending anything the man did, but enough of them were disappointed enough or "time for a change" voters that his chosen successor lost. Folks would say the same about Reagan, but his approval rating nose-dived 21 points IN ONE MONTH when the voters learned about his trade of arms for hostages. That's not a cult, either, although I'll admit a few GOP politicians used to quote the man like he was a Bible verse.


And before anyone says "Obama," MOST of the references to Obama giving him Messianic attributes were from MEMBERS OF THE MEDIA, not the rank-and-file voter. Yes, Chris Mathews said something a tingle up his leg, Evan Thomas (IIRC) said something about "he's almost like a god" and Newsweek referred to his re-election as "The Second Coming." ALL. TRUE.

And Joe Biden was more of "look, it's a binary election and he's the only horse besides K.O. Pectate, so I'll vote for him."

I have never been so glued to a politician or even a person with power who is not specifically a pol that I couldn't see faults. I've never been so enamored of them to the point that I was unable to call them out on an action or stance I found heinous. Maybe I got that from my parents. What I'm watching happen with so many Trump supporters IS the part that frightens me. He doesn't worry me as much as they do. News outlets do, too, but those favoring Trump are becoming absurd. Still, this stuff seems very much related to how one's thinking was shaped early on. "Personal culture", I guess. If you've been extremely influenced by this, it has led you in certain directions regarding how your own "lens" interprets what's happening and what you make of it. I know things I saw around me, the behaviors, the things I heard during the sixties and very tail end of the fifties in Montgomery scared me very badly. I thought people were awful creatures. As I got older, I started to realize that they'd been brought up to be that horrifically racist and antisemitic. So many whites are no longer that way and others are not quite as bad...and some just, well...are just as bad as ever and it's not just in Alabama. I had to learn that, too. But that was absolutely, without question what made me a liberal. I have family members who are conservative and I've tended to leave that alone. They think they are not racist mainly because they keep their circle pared down to people who think as they do and have never had a basis for comparison. But I hear what they think are "sayings" and "jokes" from a different angle than those in their bubble. They didn't vote for Trump but they don't see him as I do and their friends absolutely voted for him.

I heard him say this morning that the ACA is a terrible program, and we need to fix it.

Well, Republicans have been saying this since the ACA was enacted, and as of yet, we have not seen a single plan they have to replace the ACA with. I was told last week by a libertarian acquaintance that it should be repealed and that we shouldn't replace it at all. And if people lose their house, their savings.....well the answer is personal responsibility . In other words, I've got mine, so screw you.

I saw a YT video last week questioning Trump supporters about the ACA, and every one of them thought Obamacare and the ACA were 2 different things. They were for the ACA but think Obamacare is bad. None of them could say why, though.

When asked if they would support a government plan that would cover preexisting conditions, cover dependents until age 26, provide preventative care at no cost, and expand Medicaid, they answered yes. When told that those things are in Obamacare, which is the ACA, they refused to believe it.

The GOP was the one that labeled the ACA as "Obamacare," and now their base thinks they are 2 different plans. When agreeing that the things provided in the ACA are good, they still say Obamacare is bad, because they don't know they are one in the same.

MAGA folks, a brainwashed cult.

it’s helpful to remember well before the mango moron, for a few weeks these same folks were unironically referring to themselves as teabaggers as the “grassroots” tea party “movement” started

Just to trigger memories for everyone - just remember that come tomorrow when Mamdani wins in NYC and Spanberger in VA and the Democrat (don't know the name....Mikie?) wins in Jersey, all those elections will have been stolen, and Mayor McCheeseburger will tell us all it's because the Democrats shut down the government to cancel election security.

What tells you is they have racist bias at the base of their reasoning. And Trump and Republicans have leveraged this bias to evolving unbridled power.

Yes, you'd think a guy who thinks he so smart would have already come up with something, he's only had 8 years now.

But the other thing making the rounds is that this entire thing is John McCain's fault because of his deciding vote in 2017.

It will be repealed and replaced. Just so you understand, our plan will be much better healthcare at a much lower cost. OK? Nothing to complain about."
