NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Nearly three years after the Richneck Elementary School shooting, the jury has reached a verdict in the $40 million lawsuit Abby Zwerner filed against Newport News Public Schools.

Zwerner was shot in the hand and chest in January 2023 as she sat at a reading table in her first-grade classroom. Zwerner spent nearly two weeks in the hospital, required six surgeries, and does not have the full use of her left hand. A bullet narrowly missed her heart and remains in her chest.

This story is wildly inaccurate and sensational. Many have died. It was originally discovered as a disorder when a woman died after being given cetuximab for cancer. That was at least 15 years ago. Educating the medical profession, though has been long and hard. Today, when I checked into Crestwood Hospital for a esophageal dilation, I was issued a red bracelet indicating I had alpha gal. We carry epi pens, because anaphylaxis is the most common cause of death. It was established in court as the cause of death only a few years ago, though. Look at Google or Facebook and enter "alpha gal," and you'll be amazed at the hits...

The article says this guy went camping, so I stand by my statement.
You can stand by it all you want. However, the tick keeps spreading its range and ubiquity. I suspect your opinion on camping is free-standing, not dependent on alpha gal at all. Living in a world of asphalt is definitely one way to avoid ticks, so long as you don't have pets which venture outdoors...

I have three acres. One acre cleared for my house and then two acres of forest. We have tons of deer and other wildlife. I put down a pretty strong insecticide on my forest acres to keep ticks at bay. It works pretty good but we find occasional ticks on our dog about twice a year.

I hate going into the woods when it's warm out.

Several years ago, I did a canoe and kayak trip on a wild river in Western NE(The Dismal). Lots of overhanging branches. You'd go thru some of them, and ticks would just fall out of the tree and onto your skin.

Our small farm is surrounded by acres and acres of crop and grazing land. Deer and other ticks by the millions, chiggers by the zillions. During warm weather if one is adverse to pulling off ticks in the shower best not go out. Wonderful to go out after freezing weather.

Years ago, I drove to a state park in Nebraska. We didn't even get on the trails, just stopped by the visitor center. In the shower that night, I pulled two ticks off me. I still don't know how I picked them up.
