I believe you’re correct. I think the only time that wasn’t the case was when Kevin Steele coached ILB and Kirby the DB’s.
I believe recently there was a time when Xavier McKinney was actually calling the plays on defense from his safety position. In other words, I may be reading too much into the ILB play calling thing.

Has anyone looked at Glenn Schumann’s Wikipedia page? It says he is Alabama’s DC. Can someone check that out?
Wikipedia can be amended by anyone. At one point, the Auburn entry in Wikipedia said, "Auburn students eat their own poop." (Turns out that "amendment" was made from a public computer in the library at the University of Alabama.)

Just thinking out loud here, but the “pitch” to Armstrong might have been “leave your DC position at USM (obviously for more money you would think) and coach ILB’s. We’re planning bringing in (X, Y or Z) as our new DC. However, we don’t expect them to be here very long as most of our guys move on to other positions in short order. Then possibly move up to DC here at some point”.

Like I said, just pure conjecture on my part.
Doubt it took much of a pitch. He been working for peanuts every where he has coached. Just getting his foot in the door to the next level. Got to give him credit, he has risen quickly. Played LB at Huntington college in Montgomery. I’m pulling for him and his career. I like the guys that are go getters.

Let's see what happens but here's my scenario Shumann comes in at DC and
Armstrong coaches safties. Both are young. When Saban retires Schumann an
Alabama grad named head coach and Armstrong to DC. And the dynasty continues.

No thank you. The last time we did that(promoted a DC to HC), it didn’t turn out so good.

Does anyone remember what is the longest we fans have had to wait to find out who a new OC or DC is? I don't mean the official announcement.. I mean when things get reported through Twitter, reliable people, seeing them on the recruiting trail, etc. When did fans find out that Lane, Sark, BOB, Golding were our new co-ordinators? If Saban is waiting on the NCAA for the Pruitt situation, he can't wait for an answer forever.

I assume we should know something by end of January or beginning of Feb. at the latest for both the OC and DC positions.

When do workouts start for the team? RTR
