I have seen several instances of UA cops stopping someone who is black or hispanic for no reason readily apparent to me (ie speeding, running red lights or stop signs, littering, etc.) Furthermore, it is my understanding that they don't have the jurisdiction to write any kind of traffic citation that can be heard in municipal or district court. Only Tuscaloosa PD and SO as well as AL State Troopers can write traffic citations on campus. So that tells me the UA cops I've seen are just trying to stir up trouble. You say they were stopped because of the ethnicity of the driver? Yet you say
"mind you, there could be circumstances I wasn't aware of in those instances.." No kidding.
UAPD has no jurisdiction at DCH. DCH employs (or did) Wackenhut Security not UAPD officers. Perhaps you should talk to DCH Security about parking arrangements for deliveries. :BigA:
It isn't just a picture, people, it's a mugshot from the police department. That was my point.I agree. What does that picture have to do with guilt or innocence?
Well, except for Joe Willy, and the father of a recent former very popular QB....but other than them, nobody ever did anything out of line.

again, my post was entirely tongue-in-cheek in reference to the idea that CPB never would have signed Jeremy because he could sniff out troublemakers. That isn't accurate at all.
The bottom line is that college football coaches are not gods that can look into a man's soul and determine who is good and bad.
If this proves to be true and Elder is quilty then I do not think anyone has to worry about him remaining on the team and taking up a scholarship. It should be obvious that because of the type individuals being recruited today every team has its share of thugs, including the University of Alabama. Elder's actions are not the fault of CNS recruiting him, this type behavior happens everyday in this country, it is the fault of society. No offense to anyone, but why does it matter what Coach Bryant would do? Paul Bryant is not the coach at the University of Alabama now, Nick Saban is. The fact of the matter is, this is a different time we are living in. People seem to be worse now then they were back then, for whatever reason. It doesn't matter who recruited him, Shula or Saban, the kid did something wrong and he has to pay the price of his actions.
Will the police be around to arrest them (society) soon?this type behavior happens everyday in this country, it is the fault of society.
DING DING DING, we have a winner. It may not be the PC thing to place blame on parents/societal norms, but when I grew up PC didn't exist. If this proves to be true and Elder is quilty then I do not think anyone has to worry about him remaining on the team and taking up a scholarship. No we dont. We can only offer 25 scholarships to incoming freshman. If one is freed up it would probably go to a walk on or add 1 to next year if the 85 limit allows us to sign less than 25Not that there is a bright side to this, there definitely isn't, but now we have one more spot for our 32 recruits.
That's assuming we had 25 spots for the incoming class. No we dont. We can only offer 25 scholarships to incoming freshman. If one is freed up it would probably go to a walk on or add 1 to next year if the 85 limit allows us to sign less than 25
Before I don my hair shirt, I would like to point out that there is a difference. If Coach Saban went over to the victims' house for a visit, and the victims mysteriously dropped the charges, and Elder stayed with the team and played, then the comparisons would be apt.if this is true I am reminded about casting stones at other programs.
And I have a feeling this thread is about to get locked down.![]()
This is getting close to "non-sports"!
Not really, but when you start discussing the "societal responsibility" of crime then you are asking for a "non-sports" debate. And I have a feeling this thread is about to get locked down.
Agreed. The University seems to have taken an ideal course on this one. I am not embarrassed by the University (as a matter of fact, I am relieved to see UA stand as a bastion of justice and equity so far), but rather by the behavior of a representative of the University. While it is an embarrassment to the University for a Saban-recruited player to get charged with this, what the University does from here says a lot.
Instead of being like other universities (where coaches get charges dropped after talking to the victim's parents or offer the "boys will be boys" excuse), it would appear that the University and the Coach have taken every prudent and appropriate action.
